Nira's POV:
The car bumped along the road, and the closer we got to the estate, the sharper the memories came into focus.
I was the Sorens' real daughter, born of their blood. But the moment I lost my wolf, they saw me as nothing but a stain on the family name—an embarrassment, a failure, someone no longer worth keeping.
Janice had the luxury suite, decorated like a palace. I got the leftover maid's quarters.
She wore custom gowns from elite designers overseas. I had a handful of faded, outdated pieces—clothes she didn't want anymore and had already thrown out.
For five years, in that prison, through endless nights swallowed in darkness, I lived with nothing but regret.
I regretted saving Jenna's life, only to discover she was my birth mother. At the time, Lyra had been injured and barely hanging on. Still, I was stupid enough to run to the Blazeborn Pack, thinking I'd finally found home.
I regretted clinging to that fragile connection, hoping that shared blood could mean something. Letting them abuse me, watching Janice plot against me again and again, and saying nothing.
What I regretted most was believing their lies, the promise that if I stayed quiet for a while, they would eventually treat me right. Instead, they locked me away in an institution, where I spent five years being broken down and abused, all because I didn't have a wolf.
Before I was dragged back to the Sorens, I was raised under the care and guidance of my adoptive Alpha father in the Silvermoon Pack.
I wasn't just protected. I was his chosen Alpha heir. I lived a life most wolves could only dream of—respected, well-trained, and never once denied what I needed.
I took a deep breath, forcing down the storm inside me.
The car rolled through the gates of the Soren estate. The mansion looked the same, but to me, it felt like some distant, hollow shell. Whatever warmth it used to hold was long gone.
This time, I wasn't coming back as the naive girl desperate for love and family. That girl was gone. Lyra had awakened, and I wasn't here to beg. I was here to take back everything they stole from me. And anyone who owed me—was going to pay in full.
I stepped out of the car, cold and composed, and walked through the estate's front drive.
On the way in, I passed clusters of house staff. Even the Omega maids didn't bother hiding the disdain in their eyes as they looked me up and down like I didn't belong.
They whispered and snickered, their gazes landing on the cheap, worn-out striped shirt I had on.
Aven tossed a shopping bag at me with a smirk. Said Janice had "graciously" picked out some clothes for me, in case I had nothing to wear. He told me I had to change before stepping inside.
I didn't even glance at it. Just raised my hand and threw it aside.
"You little—" Aven's wolf eyes flared as he lifted his hand to slap me.
But I was ready. I grabbed his wrist mid-air, fast and clean. Lyra's strength surged through my fingers, and with a twist, Aven cried out in pain. His eyes widened in shock.
