I was terrified of scaring her off, so I swallowed the overwhelming urge to confess my feelings and forced a small, casual smile. “Nothing. Just felt a bit stuffy in here, that’s all.”
Nira glanced out the window, her face brightening up. “The weather’s actually really nice today. Why don’t I take you out to get some fresh air?”
“Okay, sure.”
I didn’t want to use her guilt to manipulate her into being with me, but I wasn’t about to pass up a chance to spend more time by her side.

The Gray family, the ruling family of the Twilight Pack, stood as one of the four major powers in the Pack Alliance. Their overall influence was second only to the Howell family.

However, the Grays had always been known for keeping a low profile; they rarely made a scene in public.
So, when this notoriously private family suddenly announced they were hosting a massive banquet and had invited all the big players from every pack, it sent shockwaves through the community immediately.
“Why is the Grays making such a huge splash all of a sudden?”
“I heard Harrison took on a new apprentice–his final one. This banquet is being held specifically in her honor.”
“Oh? Whose kid is she? How good could she possibly be to make Harrison break his own rules and accept her?”
“Nobody knows. Even the core members of the Gray family haven’t met this mysterious disciple yet.”
Everyone was buzzing with gossip, desperate to catch a glimpse of this mysterious person. On top of that, a rumor was spreading like wildfire that Kade, the first in line to become Alpha King, would also be attending the banquet.
The socialites who had been eyeing the position of Kade’s future Luna went into a frenzy. They all started meticulously selecting

So, when they spotted Nira, Kade’s ex–fiancée, lingering at the entrance, they immediately went on the defensive.

Nira’s POV:
I had just walked up to the entrance of the banquet hall when a security guard stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
“Miss, may I see your invitation?” The guard was polite, but his tone was icy.

I paused for a second. “I don’t have one on me.”
Harrison had simply told me to show up at the banquet; he hadn’t bothered to give me a physical invitation.

Just then, I heard a nasty, familiar laugh coming from the crowd nearby.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Nira. What, do you think a useless wolf without a spirit can just sneak into the Gray family’s banquet without an invite?” A socialite in a flashy gown walked over, her eyes filled with pure mockery.
“Exactly. Your dad is about to lose his position as Alpha of the Blazeborn Pack, and your own family, the main branch of the Sorens disowned you ages ago. What makes you think you belong at an elite event like this?” Another woman chimed in, her tone dripping with disdain.
Feeling their hostility wash over her, my wolf, Lyra, started snarling inside my head. I took a deep breath to calm her down and was about to clap back when Lucas suddenly pushed his way through the crowd.
“Nira, stop embarrassing yourself here!” Lucas‘ voice dripped with sarcasm. “You’re a rejected woman. Just go home. Stop dragging the Soren family name through the mud.”
I looked at him with ice in my veins and said calmly, “The Soren family already cut ties with me. What i do is none of your business.”
Lucas‘ face turned pale with anger. He looked like he was about to explode, but someone else jumped in before he could speak. “Nira, the Howells already broke off the engagement. Mr. Howell doesn’t want you. Why are you chasing him here and clinging to him like this?”
They all seriously thought I came here to chase after Kade?
What a joke.
I shot a quick glance at the woman who’d just spoken, sizing up her gaudy outfit. “You claim Kade doesn’t want me? Do you honestly believe he’d go for someone decked out like a tacky holiday centerpiece?”
“Why, you-!” She instantly lost it, flashing her wolf eyes and raising her claws as if she was about to strike me.
Right then, a deep, cold voice cut through the tension from behind the crowd. “I don’t like that.”
Everyone spun around, and I looked up too. Kade walked toward me in a perfectly tailored red suit, looking effortlessly handsome, though his expression remained cool and distant.
His gaze swept over the women who had been mocking me, his eyes freezing them in place.
The woman who had spoken looked absolutely humiliated as Kade shut her down in front of everyone. She covered her face and ran off crying.
Kade stopped right next to me and looked at me, his gaze softening instantly.
I knew these women were only bothering me because of him, and it was annoying. So, I shot him a glare
