As soon as our car rolled through the gates of the Howell estate, I spotted the butler and Julie standing outside the main house with the entire staff lined up behind them.

Edith stood at the very front, leaning on her cane. Her silver hair was perfectly styled, and the smile on her face was so broad that every wrinkle around her eyes softened.

“At last! We’ve finally got Nira back.”

Before I could say anything, she continued excitedly.

“And I’ve heard all about what you’ve been doing lately. You’ve become a role model for female wolves everywhere. You were incredible, and I couldn’t be prouder of you.”

“Thank you.”

I stepped out of the car and wrapped her in a hug.

I had barely started toward the house when Kade appeared beside me and, without warning swept me into his arms.

“Kade!”

I lowered my voice immediately as I noticed the amused looks from everyone around us.

“I can walk on my own.”

“The doctor’s orders said no unnecessary exertion.”

He carried me up the steps as if my protest didn’t exist.

Then he leaned closer.

“They may not be what’s fashionable these days, but think of them as a little gift from me.”

One glance was enough to tell me they were incredibly valuable.

She took my hand before I could protest further, then suddenly stopped.
