Kade buried his face against my neck and drew in a slow, shaky breath before finally speaking.
“My mother… she has another son.”
My hand froze where it rested on his back, and a sharp ache spread through my chest for him.
I already knew a little about it from Vera, but hearing it from Kade himself was something else entirely.
“His name is Andrew. He’s twenty years old now.” A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “My father never knew about him. Not before he died.”
I gently rubbed his back, feeling how tightly every muscle was wound beneath my hand.
“For years, I’ve used that secret to keep her in line.” He lifted his head and let out a self- deprecating laugh. “Pretty awful, isn’t it?”
“No.” I shook my head immediately and fought back the sting in my eyes. “She’s the one who failed you, Kade.”
His arms tightened around me.
“I spent years telling myself she was only hard on me because she wanted me to become Alpha King someday. I thought she favored Colt because he was easier to be around, and I kept believing that if I worked hard enough, she’d eventually see it.”
His voice caught.
“Then one day…” He took a breath before continuing. “I saw Andrew at Howard High School. He was happy, confident, and completely carefree. She protected him so well.”
A sudden warmth landed against my skin.
For a moment, I didn’t understand.
Then realization hit me.
Kade was crying.
The future Alpha King, the man everyone saw as cold, untouchable, and impossibly strong,

was holding me like a lifeline while tears slipped down his face.
It was all because of Mary.

Anger surged through me. If Mary had been standing in front of me right then, it would’ve taken everything I had to stop Lyra from going after her.
I wrapped my arms around him and gently stroked his back, silently encouraging him to let it
all out.
“Do you know what gets me the most?” Kade finally asked, lifting his head. His eyes were full of pain. “Every year, she personally celebrated Andrew’s birthday with him. But when I was ten and a black wolf broke my arm during training, she didn’t even come to the hospital. She sent the butler instead.”
He laughed softly, but the sound was more painful than tears.
“The ridiculous part is that I still convinced myself she loved me. I thought she just wasn’t good at showing it.”
My throat tightened so badly I couldn’t find the right words.
All I could do was hold him closer.
Years of hurt that he’d buried deep inside himself were finally spilling out, and I could feel the tension shaking through his body.
“She scratched me today because…” His voice dropped so low I almost couldn’t hear it. “I didn’t send Andrew’s photos on time. She thought I’d done something to her precious son.”
My heart broke.
Looking at the tears on his face, I realized I’d never seen this side of him before.
He looked so vulnerable, so heartbreakingly lost.
I cupped his face and kissed away the tears clinging to his skin.
“It’s okay,” I whispered. “You don’t have to carry all of that by yourself anymore.”
Kade rested his forehead against mine and closed his eyes.
“Nira,” he said quietly, his voice stripped of every defense he’d ever built around himself. “promise me you’ll never leave me.”

“I promise.”
I brushed my fingertips lightly over the scratch on his neck and met his gaze without hesitation.
“I’ll always be here.”
His eyes locked onto mine, emotions churning beneath the surface.
Then, without warning, he kissed me.

The kiss carried a desperate edge to it, and I could feel the slight tremble in his lips, as though he needed this moment to reassure himself that I was really here.
That I wasn’t going anywhere.
Understanding the vulnerability hidden beneath his urgency, I kissed him back just as gently, sliding my fingers into his hair.
A soft sound escaped me when the kiss deepened and stole away my breath, but instead of pulling away, I moved closer and rested my hand against his chest, feeling the powerful rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my palm.
Gradually, the desperation faded. His kiss slowed and softened, becoming lingering and tender as he cradled my face with a care that made me feel precious.
“Kade…” I tried to say his name, but the rest of the words disappeared against his lips.
He carefully eased me back onto the mattress while supporting himself with one arm so that none of his weight pressed against me.
His kisses trailed from my lips to the curve of my neck, lingering there as though he wanted to leave a piece of himself behind.
“Nira…” His voice was rough and low. “Do you know how badly I want to mark you right now?”
He whispered my name again, and beneath the desire in his voice was a vulnerability I’d never heard before.
“You’re mine…”
I answered him with the same warmth and affection he’d given me.
Neither of us seemed aware of how much time passed.
