Ibit my lower lip, reached into my medical kit, and pulled out a black capsule, plolding Quentin’s jaw firmly. I parted his lips and. slipped the pill beneath his tongue.
“What is that?” the minister asked, tension lining his voice:
“An emergency stabilizer,” I replied shortly. “It’ll shield his heart and buy us time to treat him properly.”
The minister wavered, his gaze flicking toward Edmund.
Edmund gave a firm, confirming nod. “Ms. Soren has extensive medical experience-she’s handled numerous critical cases. You can trust her judgment completely.”
Even with Edmund’s reassurance, the minister’s eyes held a mix of doubt and hesitation.
Then the aide beside him leaned in and whispered something into his ear. The minister’s expression shifted, and he looked back at me with new interest. “Ms. Soren, I hear you’ve also contributed to defense pharmaceutical research?”
I nodded. “I had the privilege of working on a medical research initiative under Gamma Noah of Veralle.”
Relief washed over the minister’s face. “Then Quentin is in your hands, Ms. Soren.”
That was all the approval I needed. Without delay, I administered the medication.
Soon, the frantic beeping of the monitor eased into a steady, rhythmic pulse. Quentin’s body began to shift-the distorted half-wolf form receding, his features returning to normal. His blood pressure gradually rose to 80/50. Still low, but he was out of immediate danger.
“He’s stabilized for now,” I exhaled slowly. “But the toxin is still present. We need an antidote, and fast.”
The minister wiped his brow. “Just tell me what you require-equipment, medications-I’ll make sure you have it.”
I paused briefly to gather my thoughts. “I’ll need access to a fully isolated lab, and…” I listed several rare herbal extracts. “These might be difficult to source, but they’re essential.”
“Consider it done. I’ll have a team locate them immediately,” the minister said without hesitation. “Our embassy maintains secure lab for analyzing potential bio-threats. I’ll have someone escort you there now.”
Kade moved closer, his voice low. “What can I do?”
A soft warmth spread in my chest. Pushing aside Lyra’s unexplained aversion toward him, I met his eyes. “Stay with Quentin. Monitor his vitals every thirty minutes and alert me at once if anything changes.”
I pulled a small linen pouch from my bag and pressed it into his hand. “If his blood pressure drops again, mix this with warm water and have him drink it.”
As Kade took the pouch, his fingers lightly brushed my palm. Our eyes locked-no words were necessary.
He gave my hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze.

“Good,” I said, relieved–but then my focus fightened. “But first, I need to identify the exact toxin composition so i can prepare the
antidote.”
Just then, the minister’s assistant hurried in. “The lab is ready. This way, please.”
Grabbing my kit and a fresh vial of Quentin’s blood, I followed him out of the medical bay.
We passed through several corridors before stopping at a heavy door secured with a biometric lock. The assistant scanned his fingerprint, and the door slid open smoothly.
Inside, the lab was better equipped than I’d anticipated-all the essential analytical instruments were in place.
What caught me by surprise was the high-performance liquid chromatography unit in the corner.
“This equipment…” I began, curious.
“Part of last year’s security upgrade,” the assistant explained. “For potential biochemical threats.”
