Natahe didn’t even flinch as she lifted her water glass. Her voice was calm, but it cut through the
sign in the room. Give me one
“We re not compatible” Killian’s tone was detached, like he was commenting of a mundane forecast. “You’re too controlling tired of it”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Dina’s fingers trace a slow, deliberate circle against Kilian’s palm.
That simple touch seemed to make his gaze drift away for just a second.
Something wasn’t right.
And this Dina-the moment she stepped inside, my wolf Lyra caught her scent and went on figh alert, a low growl stirring in the back of my mind.
I stayed quiet, watching and waiting.
“Twenty years of marriage,” Natalie said, placing her glass down with a sharp click. “And ‘not compatible’ is all you have for me?”
Killian held her stare, unwavering. “The lawyers have the paperwork ready. I’m not taking a single share of Hudson Group.”
Desmond’s wolf eyes flashed gold instantly. “You were never really a Hudson. You have no right to any of it anyway.”
Dina chose that moment to speak up, her smile aimed at me. “You must be Ms. Soren. I heard you were the one who saved Gordon. That’s quite impressive.”
1 ignored her, keeping my focus on Killian. “Mr. Hawke, you don’t look well. Would you like me to check you over?”
Dina’s expression tightened for a split second-a flicker of irritation-before she smoothed it over with practiced grace. “Mr. Hawke is perfectly fine. There’s no need for that.”
“I have training in medicine,” I pressed. “I don’t like seeing someone who might be unwell and ignoring it.”
To my surprise, Killian turned toward me, his gaze hollow. “Fine. Go ahead, Ms. Soren.”
Dina’s composure wavered again, something uneasy flashing behind her eyes, but she recovered quickly. “Well, if Mr. Hawke insists…”
With his consent, I moved closer. Studying his complexion and posture, I let Lyra sharpen my senses, reaching for any anomaly i his scent or energy.
But I found nothing-no traces of poison, no scent of coercion, no physical signs of illness.
Unsatisfied, I focused harder, reaching deeper. Still nothing.
“Are you done?” Killian’s wolf eyes suddenly locked onto mine, cold and impatient.
Natalie rose from her seat, her posture regal and composed. “If your mind is made up, Killian, I won’t stand in your way.”
