Chapter 379 A New Hope

Nira’s POV:

Kade picked up on my tension immediately. He gave my shoulder a light, reassuring squeeze and said quietly, “You’re worn out, too. I’ll stay with him–go get some rest.”

“All right.” I nodded, letting out a slow breath.

His steady, watchful care never failed to remind me how deeply he loved me.

And yet, for reasons I couldn’t grasp, Lyra still reacted strongly against his scent.

Could it really mean my fated mate was still out there somewhere? Was that whymy wolf instinctively kept other males at a distance?

I didn’t have time to dwell on it now.

After taking a moment to collect myself, I headed downstairs–and almost ran right into Natalie as she stepped out of the kitchen.

She hurried over, her brow furrowing slightly when she saw me. “The surgery’s finished? I asked the chef to prepare some broth for you. Have a bowl before you go lie down.”

“Thanks, Natalie,” I said, warmth spreading through my chest.

She smiled gently. “We’re like farmily. No need to be so formal with me.”

Looping my arm through hers, I replied playfully, “Whatever you say, Natalie.”

She went back into the kitchen herself, ladled out a bowl of steaming broth, and didn’t let me leave until I’d finished every drop.

“It’s really good,” I said, setting the empty bowl down.

“If you like it, I’ll have them make it for you regularly.” Her gaze softened, affection clear in her eyes. “Look at you—you’re exhausted. Dark circles don’t lie. You need proper sleep.”

Watching her like this, I couldn’t help imagining how wonderful it would be if she really was my birth mother.

But I still hadn’t found my real parents. Who knew when the truth of the past would finally surface?

We were still talking quietly when shouts erupted from upstairs.

“Mr. Hawke–where are you going?”

“Sir, please don’t run!”

Natalie and I bolted from the dining room.

Killian was stumbling down the staircase, eyes wild and disoriented. “Where am I? Who are all of you?”

Natalie rushed forward. “Killian, you’re awake! It’s me—Natalie!”

“I don’t know you! Stay back!” He staggered, knocking a side table over. “Get away from me!

stepped closer, keeping my voice calm. “Mr. Hawke, Natalie is your wife. You were badly hurt–that’s why your memory is affected.”

“Liar!” He grabbed a vase and hurled it against the wall, sending shattered porcelain flying. “You’re all lying to me!” Suddenly he clutched his head, groaning as he crumpled to his knees. “My head… it’s splitting…”

Moving quietly, I pulled a slim acupuncture needle from my pocket. “We’re not here to hurt you, sir.”

The moment he looked up, my wrist flicked–the needle found its mark right at his sleep pressure point.

Killiar went limp, and Natalie caught him just before he hit the floor.

She broke down sobbing. “How could this happen… He doesn’t even recognize me…”

After checking his pulse, I explained softly, “The memory confusion is a side effect of the Heartbind Chime being shattered.”
