Chapter 38 The Fall

The words hit like a sudden shockwave.

Nolan’s face drained of color, his body stiffening as disbelief filled his eyes. “That’s impossible,” he said, his voice shaking. “You’ve got the wrong person.”

Janice froze beside him, the smile on her face vanishing completely, replaced by panic. “There’s been a mistake,” she said, her voice trembling. “My brother would never do something like that. He’s from the Blazeborn Pack. He was raised better than this.”

But the officers didn’t react.

“Officer, my name is Aven. I’m a licensed attorney,” Aven said, meeting Nolan’s gaze. “This is my brother, and I’ll be representing him. Law enforcement operates on evidence, so before anything moves forward, I want to see a warrant backed by clear, substantiated proof that directly links Nolan to the alleged crime.”

The words came from all directions, sharp and relentless.

Janice covered her ears tightly, but it made no difference. The voices didn’t stop.

Nira’s POV:

I stood just outside the crowd, arms crossed, watching everything unfold in silence. Anyone who dared to cross me, Nira, was going to pay the price. There were still a few names left on my list, and I planned to take my time with each one.

Because the results of the special evaluation had been delayed this year, our enrollment had been pushed back as well.

I was about to leave when Tessa pushed through the crowd toward me.
