Jett’s POV:

The moment I caught that faint smile on Kade’s face, I knew the Soren main family was in serious trouble.

They had been betting everything on that piece of land. From what I knew, they had even put a highly profitable project on hold just to secure it. If they failed now, the losses wouldn’t just sting, they would gut them for the entire year.

Still, that had nothing to do with us. If they couldn’t pull it off, it only meant they weren’t strong enough.

“Mr. Howell, I’ll take care of it right away,” I said without hesitation. I had never shown mercy to anyone who tried to set him up, and I wasn’t about to start now.

Just as I turned to leave, something occurred to me. I stopped and added, “Mr. Howell, there’s one more thing. Nira’s mother caused a scene outside earlier. She was getting out of control, so I knocked her unconscious.”

That woman had come prepared, bringing reporters with her. It was obvious she had intended to stir things up and damage Kade’s reputation, so I hadn’t held back.

Kade’s POV:

I had never liked anyone from the Soren family. Even if Jett had shifted and torn her apart on the spot, I wouldn’t have blamed him.

“I got it,” I said, dismissing it with a casual wave. “Don’t bother sending her home. Once she wakes up, she’ll leave on her own.”

“Understood.”

Jett handled things cleanly as always, leaving immediately.

I watched her carefully, a familiar weight settling in my chest.

I knew exactly what it felt like to be treated like that by your own family.

“The Soren family doesn’t deserve you,” I said.

She looked at me, slightly surprised, then gave a small, indifferent smile. “They can’t hurt me anymore.”

That wasn’t true. No one walked away from something like that without scars, she had just learned to pretend it didn’t affect her.
