Nira’s POV:

Jett gave a slight nod, and his men immediately dragged someone forward and forced him down in front of me.

I took one look and recognized him instantly.

His hair was a mess, bits of grass clinging to his clothes, clearly dragged through rough ground, but even in that state, he tried to hold onto his arrogance. His red wolf eyes burned with anger as he glared at me.

“You’ve got some nerve grabbing me,” Rhett snapped, struggling against the grip on his arms. “Let me go, now. Do you even know who I am? My father is Hector, the alpha of Grimclaw Pack. You really think my family’s just going to let this slide?”

I looked down at him, my voice cold and steady. “Rhett, you kidnapped Tessa. Maybe you should be worrying about whether the Duvall family lets this go.”

His expression flickered, just for a second.

“The Duvalls have deep ties with the Howell family,” I continued evenly. “And the Howells are the alpha king’s line. That kind of connection goes back generations. You really thought your father could afford to make an enemy like that?”

Fear flashed across his eyes, but he forced his chin up, refusing to back down. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re trying to pin this on me, that’s all.”

Before I could respond, Tessa stepped forward.

She was still weak, wrapped in a blanket, but the fire in her eyes hadn’t dimmed at all.

“Still denying it?” she shot back, her voice shaking with anger. “You told me Nira was in your hands. That’s how you got me out there.”

I froze for a brief second.

He used me to bait her?

Tessa kept going, her voice tight. “I didn’t believe you at first. I tried to call and confirm, but my phone had zero signal. I don’t know what you used, but it blocked everything. I was worried about her, so I followed you.”

Rhett’s face shifted, but he doubled down anyway. “That’s a lie. Where’s your proof? You think saying it makes it true?”

He struggled harder, trying to break free.

Jett stepped in without hesitation, his strength overwhelming as he forced Rhett back down. “What Miss Duvall experienced was likely a signal jammer.”

“Sounds about right,” Tessa said casually, already stepping closer.

Then she drove her foot straight into Rhett’s stomach.

She didn’t hold back.

Tessa crouched despite her condition, grabbed a fistful of his hair, and yanked his head up so he had no choice but to look at her.

“You really thought you could walk away from this?” she said slowly, her voice dropping with every word.

“Proof?” She let out a short, cold laugh. “In my family, I am the proof. If I say it was you, then it was you.”

Her grip tightened, pulling another pained sound from him.

“You’re an illegitimate son nobody even values, and you thought you could play games with me?” Her eyes were full of contempt. “It wouldn’t take much for my family to knock yours out of power completely.”

Sweat beaded on Rhett’s forehead, but he still forced the words out. “If you’ve got a problem, take it out on me. This has nothing to do with my family.”

Tessa released him like he was nothing.

Jett gave a small signal, and Rhett was dragged away, his mouth covered as he struggled uselessly.

I stayed silent, lost in thought.

Tessa pulled the blanket tighter around herself, watching Rhett disappear with a cold expression. “Idiot. He doesn’t even realize he was being used.”

I glanced at her, a little surprised.

She usually came off carefree, almost reckless, but her instincts were sharp.

“They pulled this now for a reason,” she continued. “They wanted the video I have, and they didn’t want us showing up at the event tonight.”

That made everything click.

She did have that video, the one involving me, Elise, and Janice.

If Janice wanted it back quickly, this kind of reckless move made sense.

After the forum incident, Rhett had already exposed himself once. Using him again was almost too easy.

And kidnapping someone like Tessa?

Only someone as reckless and shortsighted as him would dare.

If things went wrong, the Valor family would take the full hit from the Duvalls, while Janice and Elise walked away clean.

Too bad for them, they weren’t as clever as they thought.

Hooked at Tessa, my tone turning serious. “I’ll make sure Janice answers for this.”

I paused for a moment. “She was aiming at me. You got dragged into it because of me. I’m sorry.”

Tessa didn’t hesitate for even a second. She threw an arm around my shoulders.
