It was unfortunate. There were just some things that Sylas couldn't do on his own, and he was very well aware of that. But since there was an opportunity to be used, he thought he might as well use it.
When Sylas deduced the importance of Karma and Luck to the gathering and the arrangement of the Sanctum branches, he also realized why it was the Thryskai were so interested.
The Emperor Sanctum was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.
They were in a situation where their gathering was coming up soon, and they were likewise under the same Heaven as the Thryskai, not to mention the fact that many of their branches had become intertwined with many of the Thryskai Mortal Clans.
There was little they could do about the timing. If they delayed, the Thryskai would only be in a better position to take advantage. This was the best way to minimize the damage.
Unfortunately for them, Sylas existed, and he wasn't their biggest fan.
Sylas didn't immediately have a way to take advantage of things, but when he claimed hold of his opportunity, he wasn't one to let go so easily. However, there was the matter of what he would do after the fact.
Once he thoroughly infuriated the Emperor Sanctum, where would he go, exactly? Just because they were restricted, it didn't mean that there wouldn't be a million other ways they could kill him. Who knew how many powers they had control over in just this region alone? Sending out an order would be all they needed to do in order to deal him a death blow.
Even if Sylas could deal with what targeted him alone, what would happen to Earth? Once his world didn't have the protection of being a Summoned World anymore, it was fair game.
On the one hand, he had to worry about his own safety and that of his family, but on the other hand, he owed Gralith and wanted to repay that debt as well.
So what path should he take?
In the end, he could only accept the olive branch Young Master Purvon reached out.
He was right. The Purvon weren't present. And as far as their influence was there at all, it started and ended with Sylas.
Maybe Scarval could have had a real impact had Nosphaleen not told him to leave. But now that entire line of people was dead anyway, so clearly that wasn't an option any longer.
Ironically enough, it was the overthinking of the Spirit Beasts that led to the result they had now.
They were so obsessed with thinking that Sylas was a Convergent that they only thought about it from their perspective and no one else's.
How would the Thryskai look at it?
Would they believe that Sylas was a random human born from a recently promoted Summoned World that had somehow risen to this level all on his own?
Or would it be far easier for them to believe that Sylas was a genius raised by the Emperor Sanctum?
If you sensed such a thing, then you just might feel the need to give a warning to an Emperor Sanctum that had gotten much too big for their britches.
In fact, when you looked into things, you might find that this Sylas Grimblade had the fingerprints of the Emperor Sanctum all over him, starting from the existence of Gralith's Inheritance itself.
Of course, the Young Master of the Purvon had no intention to go so far. There wasn't a need to add insult to injury since he already planned on snatching so much of the Emperor Sanctum's Karma.
But Sylas wasn't the sort to let others benefit off of him for nothing in return.
Sure, he could give the mysterious figure of the Purvon a clear shot to Demi-Godhood.
But in return, he'd take a chunk of flesh from the Emperor Sanctum as interest first.
**
One after another, the Ancestors of the Emperor Sanctum awoke, flashing out from their secluded places and into the skies. Each and every one of them wore a grave expression that poured out from the very depths of their souls.
And very soon they would learn who caused it all.
