[Bonus chapter thanks to TheAuthor137. I hope your family treated you like a plot hole this Christmas]
Intelligence wasn't just a matter of gathering a set of facts and acting on it. Maybe that would work on paper, but in the real world, people had varying emotional states, their own goals and aspirations, their own methods of doing things.
Sylas might seem like someone who did things strictly by the book, a man who lacked understanding of people. But he had never been like this.
As easily as he was able to decipher the words on a page, he could usually understand the inner workings of a person by observing them.
The reason Sylas was so intelligent was because he was capable of taking into account not only the facts on the ground but the hidden secrets in a person's heart.
He knew that the Leava Clan's best Rune Master would come after him because he understood what Dominus Paragon could do to a person's psyche. He knew that the young master of the Purvon Clan would be here somewhere, likely standing in a tower overlooking everything, because he understood that the young man was almost the same sort of person he was-his ego might be huge, but he knew when to take a step back when need be.
And he knew, after interacting with Salivar, that as arrogant and impulsive as the latter seemed, he would never- never once-consider placing his Guild at such risk if not for the implicit consent of those far more powerful than himself.
So the question was... why was the Seeing Eye Guild so confident? Why were they willing to take on this boon of Karma?
This secret tingled at something at the back of Sylas' mind, and he knew that the situation had changed.
If the Seeing Eye Guild was willing to go so far, they might be more aggressive than he could ever imagine, which also likely meant that the Purvon Clan young heir wouldn't be enough to protect his life any longer.
Yet, Sylas had yet to accomplish his goal. This was the only path he had to improving his Glassborn Cryst Emperor Class to E-tier. If he failed to do so here, he would have to abandon this Class.
Unfortunately, there was no easy way for him to undo such a selection.
Theoretically, if he deepened his comprehension of his body enough, he could peel away the layers of his body that Glassborn Cryst Emperor interacted with just enough to remove the Class entirely. But since there was no "Class" layer of the body, Extricate would need to be quite precise and utilize knowledge Sylas didn't yet have to accomplish this.
Such a detour would take Sylas easily a decade or two to complete, and that probably didn't include the time it would take him to find a comparable Class to replace it. And who knew if that Class would have an even more ridiculous demand of him to improve it to E-tier as well.
This was Sylas' best chance. Otherwise, his body would become incredibly unbalanced.
And what was the point of doing all this-of putting his name out there, of making an enemy of the entire Seeing Eye Guild...
Only to come back empty-handed?
Sylas wasn't one above cutting his losses when the time came, and the situation was certainly changing rapidly around him. But he also knew that without risk, there was no reward.
If he wanted to accomplish what he wanted to, if he wanted to stare through that ceiling into its maw once again, if he wanted to control his own life-truly control it... There was only one path.
Sylas wasn't able to accomplish complex tasks with the Scorned Wraps. They were designed to obscure the vision of the system. The more he tried to do, the more of a chance he risked of exposing himself.
But right now, he didn't need to do anything complex. He didn't even need to target the main system at all.
He just needed to do a single thing.
Obstruct the Seeing Eye Guild's system.
So-called "systems" beneath the Demi-God Realm-and honestly beneath the God Realm, for that matter-weren't considered true systems. They were almost like add-ons to the main system, piggybacking off of it.
While even systems of God Clans were similar in this way, they could be considered to be far more independent than their lesser counterparts.
On the fringes, though, these organization-specific systems were quite good. At the very least, right now, it was stalling things for Salivar.
But this Salivar had already lost once. Was it all that fair for him to come back even more powerful than before, with his full slate of abilities at his fingertips? ๐ฏ๐ป๐๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ท๐๐ฟ๐๐.๐๐ธ๐ข
Fairness wasn't something Sylas cared all that much about. That was why he didn't mind kicking an injured man while he was down.
