Genetic Ascension novel Chapter 1838

๏ปฟChapter 1838: For Every

A barrier formed over Casstle Main. It rippled like the surface of a calm lake, and then shook violently as though someone had blasted music beneath that very same calm surface.

It seemed just on the verge of cracking when Sylas stepped outside, his gait calm. There was a flicker in his gaze and the barrier calmed instantly, the land around Casstle Main collapsing in response and leaving it on a lone island surrounded by sheer cliffs.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

Sylas took another step forward and he felt someone grab his hand. He looked back to see his mother.

Isolde clenched his hand hard with both of hers, looking at him with an almost pleading look in her eyes.

There were ways around this, she knew it. There were methods Sylas had to escape, to avoid this matter. It didn't need to be handled like this.

Cassarae saw the Sylas who never lost. Isolde saw the son she had been guiding since he was born.

It wasn't a matter of belief, it was a matter of perspective. No matter how many things happened, no matter how many of Sylas' feats she experienced, she couldn't let this matter go so easily.

As though in response, the teleportation channels of Casstle Main triggered and Sylas' father and grandfather rushed out in quick succession. They already had their weapons drawn as though they expected to spawn right in the middle of a battlefield, their eyes landing on Sylas at the same time.

"There's no need to worry," Sylas said calmly.

It was Cassarae who eventually walked over and took Isolde's hands into her own.

Sylas gave his mother one last look, and then his grandfather and father a nod.

"There's only one way this ends," Sylas said calmly, stepping into the skies.

It was quite funny, almost. He had spent so long preparing for one enemy, only for one that hadn't even been on his radar to make the first move.

Stepping into his home, announcing his impending doom to the world, bringing his mother, his family, his people into this.

Sylas couldn't really remember the last time he was angry. He hadn't even cared all that much when Old Brama betrayed him. He hadn't even reacted with anger when Rhykan back stabbed him either.

These weren't the sort of thing that could get him riled up.

If he was going to be angry, most often it was with himself.

The closest he had been to being infuriated in recent memory, though, was that moment he formed his Mixed Chaotic Arts.

It wasn't too long ago at all. That feeling was something he had experienced too many times now already... the feeling of someone looking down on him from above as though they deigned to pass judgment on him... As though they had the right.

This was worse than that.

To come to his doorstep, speaking of taking his life, and then the life of everyone he had ever cared for.

Now that, that was a step beyond.

Sylas rose into the skies with every calm step he took. One foot after another, and slowly, the Earth began to resonate itself.

The steps were just as calm as theirs had been, and yet they resonated even further, even deeper. People heard them not just in their ears, but in their hearts, echoing through their skulls, resonating with their souls.

Cracks began to appear in the golden roads that formed above the continents. They had yet to move, and Sylas knew exactly why.

This wasn't war. They didn't take it as such. They wanted to set an example, to make sure others knew never to touch their bottom line again. For that, they wished to slay Sylas first so the people of Earth could only remember fear in their last moments.
