[Bonus chapter thanks to Rikstingray <3 there has to be a better coping mechanism for not having a Valentine's than this] Sylas punched, and the world around him exploded. The arm length of his trench coat and turtleneck sleeve shattered apart in the same blow.
An emerald and gold glow hung around Sylas, the density solidifying until it was practically armor.
'Hm?'
Sylas had only a moment of pause for a split second when Kalem's style completely shifted. The latter's fist became an open palm the instant their knuckles connected, his hand sliding down beneath Sylas' fist as though to parry it.
Sylas' arm slid up, and Kalem snaked around it, flipping his palm with a twist of his wrist and grabbing onto Sylas' own.
A pressure powerful enough to fracture bone pressed down on Sylas' wrist, and Kalem pulled.
BOOM.
He rocketed a punch into Sylas' palm, and when Sylas reacted with a block using his opposite elbow, Kalem's style wildly changed again, flipping in the air and kicking down a shin toward Sylas' skull.
All the while, he never released his grip on Sylas' arm. If anything, the pressure increased, his claws digging into Sylas' flesh and crushing what bone there was.
Sylas tilted his head to the side, protecting his brain from being rattled. But that didn't stop Kalem's kick from falling like a guillotine onto his shoulder.
Pain erupted through Sylas' body. His ribcage cracked beneath the pressure, his shoulder blade fracturing as his arm was ripped out of its socket.
'Strong.'
Kalem wasn't just powerful; his control over his body was excellent. He fought more like an Ape than a Lion, though, and that fascinated Sylas all the more.
'He has more than one Spirit Beast. He just doesn't seem to realize it.'
What Sylas also didn't realize was what that meant. The value of such a thing was enough to overturn the Beast Emperor Sanctum. There was a reason they put so much value into a certain Scorpion youth.
But Kalem was on another level. He had the strength of not just more than one Spirit Beast, but two of the founding creatures.
If he could awaken, he would instantly surpass any other genius of the Emperor Sanctum. He would, at the very least, be on the same level as a Cryst Emperor.
Unfortunately for him, he was not awakened.
Sylas vanished from where he stood in the air, and Kalem's follow-up attack met nothing but air.
Landing deftly in the skies as though on solid land, Kalem's claws scraped across the air. Sparks flew, and a red- gold aura radiated from him, fury marring his features.
Whatever shoes he had been wearing were torn to pieces, allowing the claws of his feet to tear at the fabric of the clouds themselves.
He looked down at his hand in disbelief. He had been holding onto Sylas purposely to not allow the latter to teleport again like he had before.
At first, he thought Sylas had escaped, but Sylas simply appeared a mere 10 meters away, popping his shoulder back into place and then wiping a bead of blood away from the corner of his lip.
Kalem realized that Sylas' control over space was beyond any such expert he had fought in the past. Either that, or Sylas' Will was more powerful than his. That was the only way he could overwhelm his touch and break free to teleport.
However, this didn't temper his fury. Instead, it pulled on something else.
Kalem howled like a wild beast, his fluctuating hair solidifying into streams of blinding gold light. However, his eyes themselves only became redder rather than more gold.
It was all Sylas' fault. Every bit of pressure they were experiencing, all of the members of the Lion Lineage that had died, all of the ones that would certainly die in the future... If he could bring back Sylas' head, all of this would end.
He would be able to protect his parents, his Ancestors, his little sister.
Kalem's chest expanded, and his blood boiled.
CLANG. CLANG. CLANG.
