Fanelei remained in the skies with her arms crossed. She wore a cold and indifferent expression, but inwardly she was cursing Sylas.
She was one of the strongest A-tiers of the Mortal Realm, and here she was running errands for a little boy.
Granted, if she was honest with herself, this wasn't the real reason she was ticked off. In reality, she had already decided that she would follow and believe in Sylas. But maybe she had expected some sort of reward for that conclusion.
Instead, what she got was cold indifference as though Sylas felt that it was only natural.
On the one hand, the fact that she had made such a decision was already ridiculous enough and should prove the fact that Sylas deserved whatever inflated sense of ego he had.
But on the other, she still wanted her own ego stroked at least a little bit. This definitely wasn't how you became a good leader.
The most frustrating part, though, was that this wasn't just Sylas' personality at play. Well, it was, but it wasn't like this personality of his barred him from understanding people.
If Sylas wanted to wipe out the Scorpion Lineage, he could have. Given the level his Rune Mastery had just reached, just the same way he had triggered evolutions in the Genes of the disciples, he could also trigger the
reverse.
Genes would be far more resistant to negative changes, but given how powerful Sylas was and how intimately he understood the Scorpion Emperor, even if he didn't completely cripple them, he could have definitely weakened them considerably.
But he hadn't done any of that. Instead, he let them fall into their own trap and didn't even raise a single finger.
The problem with that from Fanelei's perspective was that this meant Sylas understood how to use soft power. He understood relationship dynamics and he knew that if he was too aggressive in wiping out the Scorpion Lineage the others would react poorly to it.
By comparison, if the Scorpion Emperors dropped their boulders on their own feet first, Sylas would be crowned and rewarded for what he wanted to do anyway.
And that led to her.
Sylas could probably see that if he was just a little nice to her she'd probably fall even further into the embrace of loyalty. Yet he hardly spoke a word to her and just directed her to do as she should.
It was one thing if he didn't understand and just did this because this was how he acted on a day to day basis. It was another thing entirely for him to understand and not give a damn anyway.
Fanelei gritted her teeth. 'Deal with those damned meteors yourself, then.'
She knew it was a worthless endeavor to say all of that. If Sylas hadn't asked her to help with them, it probably meant that he either knew it would overextend her or that he had a plan of his own already.
In truth, it was definitely a little bit of both.
While Fanelei didn't fear the Scorpion Lineage at all, the Thryskai to her back was a different matter entirely. They almost certainly had brought their own A-tiers.
The good news was that none of them were probably Legends. If a Thryskai Legend had been here, this battle would already be over.
Even so, they were probably people Fanelei had to take seriously.
If Sylas wanted her to handle things on this side-especially capturing them alive like he had asked-there was no way that she could spend any time focusing on anything else.
At least... she would have a chance to vent a little bit on these annoyances.
She raised a hand.
