Genetic Ascension novel Chapter 998

Chapter 998 Luck

Sylas came to a slow stop in the middle of absolutely nowhere. He felt his heartrate kicking up and a cold sweat forming on his back, but there was no danger in sight at all.

'Luck.'

He came to the conclusion instantly, but he didn't understand what was wrong.

The young prince, maybe?

No, that was impossible. If the young prince was such a danger, considering how much effort he had put into his battle with Gogo, he would have shown it already.

There was a possibility that the young man simply had that much restraint, but Sylas very much doubted it. At the very least, it wasn't the easiest, most straightforward answer.

'I'm being targeted by something? No, not quite either. But I'm related.'

Sylas' mind churned and he once again, near instantly, came up with the answer.

'Legacy. It's almost certainly Legacy.'

From his conversation with Yvette, he knew of many of the happenings that he had accidentally triggered, including the second wave of destruction that came soon afterward.

Why would Legacy be targeted right after? Well, wasn't it obvious that this was due to them so directly interfering with the system like they had?

That meant that this should all be related to one thing.

Moose.

'Even after what happened, they still want to pursue this? But how are they going about doing that, and why do I only feel it now?'

Sylas' Luck was off the scale at this point, having crossed over 12,000. Normally, considering who was targeting him right now, this still wouldn't be enough. Not because of a Luck gap necessarily, but a grade and tier gap.

Much like other stats, Luck scaled with your tier of strength. The same Luck from an E-Grade was worth more than it was to an F-Grade.

But this time, Sylas' Luck had triggered anyway. And there were two very good reasons for that.

First and likely because this individual had stepped into a quadrant of the system they were not an Overlord in. As such, they had lost priority rights to protect their own fate and anything extending from it.

But second and most importantly in this case… they had wrapped up someone with far inferior Luck to Sylas and made them a key cog in their plan.

Sylas didn't understand enough about Luck and the ins and outs of it to deduce this much, but he had his guesses.

For his Luck to be acting like this, whoever it was had to be close.

What should he do?

Sylas' gaze became unfocused, his thoughts racing.

Information, he needed more of it. His gaze shifted and it landed on Lorien, who was slumped over his shoulder.

"Wake up. I know you're not truly unconscious."

Lorien had entered a state of hyper-healing by shutting down most of her body's functions. It was an interesting skill, but Sylas had no interest in it because the odds he would ever be relaxed enough to use it were slim to none.

After a shake, Lorien slowly awoke. She frowned when she noticed she was covered in saliva before she remembered that Sylas had actually thrown her into Gogo's mouth.

She suppressed her fury and sharpened up.

"How do I expose them to the system?"

Lorien's lip twitched. He wanted to go after someone who had the balls to try and fly under the system's radar?

Just logically, such a person was probably at least D-Grade. No, just by virtue of the fact they had crossed through a system barrier to get here…

Sylas hadn't said it, but this person had to have moved here recently, somehow missing the second rampage of the system, but still making it here mere days apart.

That speed wasn't normal.

"… That's impossible to say. Even if they overextend themselves, they likely have back-up plans. On top of that, even if they die, anything you're involved in will likely lead to your death first before the system can even react."

Lorien knew better than to lie or hide anything in front of something with a far stronger Will than her own, so she was very upfront. Plus, with how Sylas was dragging her around like this, any life and death situation he ended up in, she would probably follow right after.

"If I had infinite strength, how would I do it?" freewebnoveℓ.com

"… Well, I guess you would have to get them to get their proxy into trouble. Once they're investigated by the system, the one behind them has a high chance of being exposed as well. But it isn't guaranteed. You would have to make the proxy do something particularly bad."

Sylas fell into silence. But that would require finding the proxy. How could he possibly…

'Is it?'

Sylas felt his heart skip a beat as his Luck trembled again.

Suddenly, he realized that he had still underestimated the value of having a Luck stat that was so high.

The young prince.
