Caroline fired, but she was too far away. The bullet hit Neville’s shoulder instead of his heart.
“Arghhhh!” Neville screamed and fell to the ground.
Then something she didn’t expect happened.
The men around Neville pulled out three guns.
All of them pointed straight at her.
So Neville had guns too!
That’s why he dared to come after Mick tonight. He’d gotten weapons.
That was also how he’d managed to capture General.
Riley helped Neville stand up. Neville held his bleeding shoulder, teeth clenched, and pulled a pistol from his pocket. His hand trembled as he aimed it at Caroline.
“Shoot her! And kill that dog too!” He shouted loudly.
The men fumbled with their guns, clearly not used to them.
None of them even knew how to load properly.
Caroline gritted her teeth and took a deep breath. Then she acted fast. She pretended to reach into her pocket, but in reality, she pulled two grenades from her storage space.
Without hesitation, she yanked both pins and threw them.
Two explosions rocked the air–BOOM! BOOM!
Bodies were scattered everywhere.
Two men, panicking, pulled their triggers–but both missed completely.
No one knew where their bullets went.
The grenades left two craters in the ground. Three men were dead instantly.
Two more had their legs torn apart and were crawling on the floor, trying to drag themselves
away.

Caroline rolled across the ground, closing the gap between her and the remaining thugs. She climbed over a pile of debris and came face–to–face with Neville.
Neville was still holding that piece of dog meat in his hand.
When he saw her coming, his face twisted in fear. “Don’t–don’t kill me!” he shouted. “I have supplies! Tons of them! You can have everything!”
Caroline smiled coldly. “Where are they?”
Neville’s beady eyes darted around. “If you let me go, I’ll take you there. But–you have to swear. Swear to God you won’t kill me!”
Caroline pulled out her gun and aimed it straight at his forehead. “Tell me. Or I’ll end you right now.”
Neville shivered all over.
Even in the apocalypse, this man had managed to stay fat–proof he’d been eating well while others starved.
Seeing him hesitate, Caroline kicked him hard in the ribs. “Talk!”
“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!” He cried, his voice trembling. “Just don’t kill me, please! Let me live!”
Caroline looked down at the shaking lump of flesh on the ground and gave a faint smile. “Fine. I won’t kill you. I’ll let you live.”
Neville’s eyes brightened instantly. He blurted out the location of his stash.
Caroline nodded. Then she pretended to reach into her bag. In truth, she reached into her storage space and pulled out the lollipop, the one that was capable of making people hurt like hell.
Without another word, she swung it hard at Neville’s head.
“AAAHHHH!”
Neville screamed, thrashing wildly on the ground as his whole body convulsed from the shock.
Caroline’s face turned cold as she swung the stun baton again, striking Neville square in the
back.
His scream was louder than before. His whole body shook on the ground, twitching like he’d
been electrocuted.

Caroline glanced at the lollipop. She knew it only had a limited number of uses. She had to stop now.
Otherwise, she would’ve gladly given him a few more hits.
“Scumbag,” she spat, kicking him hard in the ribs.
Then she looked over at General, who was lying weak and barely breathing. She sighed in sympathy.
She had hoped that once General escaped, he might finally live free. But fate was cruel. The dog had been captured, tortured, and half–eaten alive by humans worse than beasts.
Just then, Raven came closer.
He let out two low whimpers, eyes fixed on General.
General turned his head weakly, answering with a faint growl that barely left his throat.
After a moment, Raven looked back at Caroline. His eyes were wide and pleading.
Caroline understood. Raven wanted her to save him.
She gently stroked General’s neck, her touch calm and comforting.
Caroline thought about what a good dog he was–how even in the harshest days, he had always obeyed Mick’s commands without hesitation.
Later, when he met Raven, he listened to him too, turning away from his old path and finding a new one. He even avenged himself, reclaiming his dignity as a proud creature of his own will.
For the first time, General could have lived freely instead of following human orders. But fate played another cruel joke. Just when he had finally escaped the chains of obedience, he ran into Neville and once again became a victim of human greed.
She closed her eyes for a second and murmured, “I hope you can live as a free, happy dog in
the future.”
As she spoke, a faint glow appeared in her hand–a stream of spring water. She gently poured
it into General’s mouth.
At first, nothing happened. Then, the dullness in his eyes slowly faded. Light returned to them. The wounds on his body began to close, the torn flesh knitting back together.
The General’s eyes widened suddenly. He turned his head toward Caroline, alive once more.
