Chapter 296 Arthritis
That was how she always knew everything going on in Building A.
And through her, those bits of information were passed on to Building B.
She had found her own way to survive in the apocalypse–by becoming something like an information broker.

These days, the shelter didn’t hide much from its people. Only the top–secret matters stayed classified. With so many people crammed together, news spread faster than wildfire.
So it didn’t take long for Building B to hear about Caroline – how she could make medicine, and how she was working with the
army.
Caroline glanced at Dyson and gave a cold snort. “Dyson, what’s that got to do with you?”
Her deal with the army had nothing to do with Building B. They weren’t enemies, but they weren’t exactly friends either. What she could or couldn’t do, who she worked with–none of that was their business.
Dyson scratched his chin with a fake grin, clearly trying too hard to look sincere. “I think Tyler also knows Crow,” he said, glancing at Tyler.
Tyler sneered. “That guy Crow from Obsidian Fang is a real snake.”
Dyson pressed a hand to his chest, took a deep breath, and put on a face like he was trying his best to stay calm. He didn’t argue with Tyler and went on, “Anyway, Crow’s got arthritis. He’s been in so much pain lately that he can’t even get out of bed. I was wondering if Caroline could take a look? Or maybe there’s an experienced doctor in this shelter who can help him out? Of course, if he gets better, we’ll reward you with that bow–and some other nice stuff too! Obsidian Fang’s a lot more generous than this broke little shelter of yours!”
Francis walked in right at that moment, leaning on a crutch. He immediately raised his hand, ready to go after Dyson. “Who said our shelter’s broke? I’ll throw you out myself!”
But as soon as he moved, his wound flared up. One of the guards rushed forward to hold him down.
Dyson quickly bowed his head and gave an exaggerated little wave. “Haha, I was just kidding. You guys have such a big operation here–no way you don’t even have a doctor, right? We’re not asking for free help, of course. Still, I thought of Caroline first, since we’re… familiar, you know? She’s officially certified, has her own lab–a real pro! No way she can’t handle a simple case of arthritis, right?”
Caroline stared at Dyson. His squinted eyes looked like two thin slits, full of scheming.
She could cure arthritis. She had ointment in her storage space that could fix it in three patches.
But she didn’t want to treat Crow. She could tell Tyler didn’t like him, and that was reason enough for her.
The bow Dyson mentioned was valuable, sure, but it wasn’t worth getting her tangled in something suspicious.
More importantly, she didn’t trust Dyson’s motives. Why was he insisting that she go? Did he already know something about her
secret abilities?
“Colonel Sutton has military doctors… ” Caroline started, but then noticed Francis shooting her repeated looks.

She paused. Right–Francis had been the one who called her down here. He must have his own plan.

Caroline turned back to Dyson. “I’m not a real doctor. The army values me because of a few old family remedies. But before anything, I’ll need to talk to Colonel Sutton.”
Dyson said he wasn’t in a hurry and left first.
When he was gone, Caroline turned to Francis. “Colonel Sutton, you’ve got a plan, don’t you?”
Francis grinned. “Caroline.”
Denton frowned. “Colonel Sutton, that’s too casual. You shouldn’t…”
Francis waved him off. “Hey, I’ll call her however I like. Anyway, I need you to take a trip to Building B.”
His voice turned serious near the end.
Caroline’s expression hardened.
Francis leaned closer. “I think there’s something off about that place. It’s like they can predict what’s going to happen next.”
Caroline’s pupils tightened sharply.
She had a thought–one she didn’t dare say aloud.
Before the apocalypse, she’d once seen a user online called Eggster who had predicted nearly everything that happened afterward. She’d always wondered if maybe she wasn’t the only one who had been reborn.
Could it be… there was another reborn person inside Building B?
Francis went on to list a few examples of what made him suspicious about them.
Sara Lili is a daring romance writer who turns icy landscapes into scenes of fiery passion. She loves crafting hot love stories while embracing the chill of Iceland’s breathtaking cold.
