Girl's Doomsday Rebirth Revenge & Survive novel Chapter 358

358 The Swarm Approaches

Nelson finally stirred from his unconsciousness.

As his eyelids parted, the room was eerily empty—everyone had vanished except for Jet. The loyal bird sat quietly at his side, steadfastly keeping vigil.

Jet had deliberately remained behind, waiting patiently for Nelson to regain consciousness. His purpose was clear: to inform Nelson of the events that had unfolded and to urge him to get some rest.

However, as soon as Nelson discovered he had acquired a formidable new power, his mind raced with excitement. His immediate reaction was, “This is amazing! I can’t waste time—I need to test it right away.”

Without hesitation, the moment he rose, Nelson hurried to the 65th floor. There, he carefully drew a vial of his own blood and plunged headfirst into his experiments.

When Caroline arrived accompanied by Lisa, they found Nelson utterly absorbed in his work, completely detached from the outside world.

In such moments, Nelson responded only to voices he trusted—and at this time, that trust belonged solely to Caroline.

Lisa stood respectfully nearby. “Professor Valdez, I’m Lisa from Obsidian Fang. We would like to extend an invitation for you to join our organization.”

Nelson didn’t even glance up. His eyes remained glued to the microscope as he scrutinized his blood sample.

Lisa tried once more, maintaining her politeness. “Professor Valdez, our leader said you can set any conditions you want. We can provide all the funding, equipment, and materials necessary for your research.”

Nelson placed the blood sample into a testing device and stared at it vacantly, lost deep in thought.

Lisa’s patience began to wear thin. Frustrated, she frowned and said, “Professor Valdez, did you hear me? I’m Lisa from Obsidian Fang. Our base is just across from you—in Building B.”

Suddenly, Nelson snapped his fingers. “Hmm, maybe I should take a skin sample next. Let’s see what changes I can observe.”

Caroline sighed and stepped forward gently. “Nelson, take a moment to rest. Someone is asking if you want to join their group.”

This barely caught his attention. His eyes shifted toward Lisa, but they seemed unfocused, as if he were looking through her rather than at her.

“Group? What group? I’m in the middle of examining skin tissue.”

Lisa was left speechless.

Is he genuinely ignoring me, or is this some kind of joke?

Caroline tried again, more firmly. “Obsidian Fang wants you to join them. Are you interested?”

This time, Nelson processed the words.

His brow furrowed. “Obsidian Fang? Never heard of them. I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying here. I have experiments to run. Unless the world ends or it’s time for dinner, don’t bother me. Oh, and if Handsy causes any trouble, call me—I’ll handle it.”

Then, Nelson grabbed a small scalpel, carefully sliced a tiny piece of skin from his pinky, and placed it under the microscope. His eyes gleamed with renewed focus as he vanished back into his world of research.

Caroline had mulled over this possibility many times. Eventually, she would have to abandon the building—likely soon after the great heat wave arrived.

Yet, at this moment, the thought of leaving everyone behind felt deeply wrong.

After all, she understood that the mutant creatures were drawn here because of them. The energy released by their awakenings acted like a beacon.

Even if they escaped to the mountains, the energy from their powers would still attract mutant insects.

The only difference would be the scale—a smaller swarm, perhaps—but still deadly.

Her gaze shifted to Lisa and the others on the boat. They had clearly noticed the approaching swarm as well. The group rowed harder and faster with every stroke, desperation sharpening their movements.

At the bow, Lisa stood tall and unflinching. The wind whipped through her hair, and instead of fear, a faint smile played on her lips. Caroline recognized that smile.

Lisa’s ability allowed her to control mutant insects. She was likely planning to confront the swarm head-on and tame the strongest among them.

But Caroline doubted Lisa’s chances, at least for now. Lisa had only recently awakened her power. Facing an entire insect disaster alone would be suicidal.

That meant Building B was about to face a brutal battle of its own.

Inside the building, Francis moved swiftly. He barked orders, directed soldiers to load their weapons, sealed doors, and posted guards at every window, preparing for the inevitable fight.
