**Doomsday Rebirth 477**
**Chapter 477: Gossips**
Just when Caroline had resigned herself to the notion that Raven might remain a solitary figure for eternity, she caught sight of Snow, who was gazing at him with eyes that sparkled with admiration. It was as if Snow’s expression was a loud proclamation, declaring just how remarkable and cool Raven truly was.
Caroline found herself momentarily at a loss for words, her mind racing.
Animals had never really held a special place in her heart, but there was something undeniably captivating about this scene.
After exchanging warm greetings with General’s pack, she reached out to stroke the massive head of General once more, feeling the familiar warmth beneath her fingertips.
His body bore even more scars now—each one a testament to his resilience, a badge of honor earned through the trials of the apocalypse they had all endured.
“Thanks, General. Thank you for remembering me and for being there when I needed you most,” she whispered, her voice a mix of gratitude and affection.
In that moment, Caroline was overwhelmed by a wave of emotion—a pure, untainted kind of love that only animals seem capable of offering.
Her gaze drifted over to General’s pack, and she silently wished for their prosperity in Hornvale.
They had the potential to evolve into a formidable force, one that no one would dare to challenge.
Yet, with a serious tone, she added a warning, “Keep an eye on the humans. Seriously—maintain your distance. Don’t let your guard down around them.”
General’s bright, intelligent eyes locked onto hers, and though no words were exchanged, she could sense his understanding.
Once a dog who had suffered, used and nearly consumed, he had forged his own path in this unforgiving world.
As Caroline and her group waved their goodbyes to General and his mutant pack, the sun began to rise, casting a golden hue across the horizon, illuminating the world around them.
The dogs marched in a long, steady line, slowly fading into the distance.
After a brief moment, General leaped onto an elevated spot and released a long, resonant howl directed at Caroline.
The rest of the pack joined in, their voices harmonizing in a beautiful chorus, while Snow howled back from their side.
It was a gesture that felt like half a salute, half a farewell—a moment that would linger in their hearts as they climbed into the car and drove away, the sound of their howls echoing in the air behind them.
As they pulled away, Jet suddenly fluttered into Caroline’s arms, as if he was about to share a delightful secret.
Jet had his own agenda. Since Caroline placed so much trust in General, he felt it was his duty to ensure that this dog was genuine and not some kind of trickster. Jet was fiercely protective of his human.
According to him, General was the brightest dog in the pack. He even had the good sense to choose the prettiest mate.
He enforced the rules—one dog, one partner. No chaotic free-for-alls like those found in other packs.
They didn’t steal from humans either; they kept their distance, surviving off mutant creatures and scavenging scraps from abandoned homes.
Their territory wasn’t close by. They were merely passing through when they fortuitously crossed paths with Caroline’s group.
“I don’t think General is as clever as Raven or as fierce as Snow. But I’ve got to admit—he’s a real stand-up guy!” Jet proclaimed with an air of authority.
Caroline couldn’t help but smile. Did Jet binge-watch any romantic dramas recently? Since when did he become a commentator on relationships?
“General’s been sharing tales about you and Raven with the pack. Everyone knows about your bond. Each one of them considers you their friend. Though, with their not-so-bright dog brains, they don’t fully grasp the depth of your relationship—they just understand the terms ‘friend’ and ‘teammate.’ Honestly, they should really be calling you benefactors!”
“This time, General even gave orders that treat you as part of the pack. If we find ourselves in danger together, they’re supposed to back us up. That’s why I say he’s a real man!”
