The moment he said those words, far away inside Hornvale Base, Caroline felt her storage space shake without warning. It was like someone slammed a heavy hammer into her chest.
She froze. But she quickly told herself it was just the old animal hide in front of her causing the strange feeling.
At the same time, the sandstorm outside exploded into chaos.
Alarms blared across the entire base.
The ground shook again, stronger than before. At the very bottom level of the base, the mother panda was fast asleep, holding her one remaining panda cub in her arms.
She felt peaceful. Life felt perfect. All seven troublesome little ones had already been sent away. Only this one was left–easy to raise, no stress at all. No pressure. No burden. She could finally relax completely.
But just as she was sleeping comfortably, the ground suddenly lurched. Her body tilted hard to one side.
She had to quickly reach out and grab the cub so it wouldn’t fall to the floor. That movement cost energy. And energy was precious right now. She wasn’t eating much.
Feeling that this broken base was shaking even worse than before, the mother panda finally snapped. She turned her head and roared at the llama beside her. “You useless llama! Ever since you moved next to me, this place keeps shaking for no reason!”
Yes. Pandas could be rude, unreasonable, and completely unfair. And somehow, no one could do anything about it.
The llama was so scared he spat out the grass in his mouth. “What did I do?! I’m just a llama!”
All around the base, the shaking continued.
People looked up in horror. The sky outside suddenly turned pitch black. It wasn’t even night yet.
Before, even during sandstorms, there was always a bit of light. But now, they felt like the entire base had been buried underground. The sand and wind swallowed the sky whole, leaving no light at all.
One tornado became four. They rushed in from all directions, like massive spinning blenders, as if they wanted to grind the base apart and swallow it whole.
The alarms that signaled enemy attacks kept screaming. Soldiers rushed into combat readiness. But this time, they didn’t know who the enemy was.
Inside Nathaniel’s office, Caroline and the others stood by the window. They watched the raging sand outside. They listened to the scouts‘ reports. Everyone scowled.
Caroline felt it the strongest.
The earlier vibration in her storage space was too strange.
She tried touching the deflated animal hide again. Nothing happened. No chest pain. No shock. But that one moment earlier was already enough to put her on high alert.
Tyler noticed her expression and asked quietly, “What’s wrong?”

Suddenly, Caroline realized something. Tyler had a storage space too.

His storage space wasn’t as powerful as hers, but it had formed naturally inside a gemstone before his ability even awakened. People could enter it. In theory, his storage space was similar to hers.
She tested the idea carefully. “Just now, your storage space-”
Before she could finish, Tyler said, “It shook. Really hard.”
Caroline’s thoughts raced. Tyler had been far away from the animal hide. He hadn’t touched it at all. His storage space still reacted. So the hide and the vibration might not be directly connected.
Then why did the storage spaces react?
There was no time to think.
The base was in danger.
Once it was confirmed that the destruction was caused by the tornadoes outside, Nathaniel acted immediately. All civilians were ordered to evacuate into reinforced shelters.
Alger led soldiers to strengthen the base’s structure. Francis gathered a team and went outside the base to search for the animal with special abilities.
Nathaniel spoke while watching a tornado tear at one corner of the base. “Caroline, do you see it? Even with so many ability users, so many ability animals, strange powers, advanced tech, and heavy weapons, we’re still almost powerless against a disaster like this.”
From where he stood, he could clearly see the tornado ripping at the base.
Glass shattered everywhere. Parts of the structure were already being lifted into the air.
This base was built with interlocking joints. If even one corner were destroyed, the whole structure would be like a block tower with one piece pried loose. One piece would fall. Then another. Then another. And finally, the entire base could collapse.
