Golden Cage Mommy Mutiny (Elyse) novel Chapter 37

Chapter 4

Before I got home, I went to a clinic first to have my head wound cleaned and bandaged.

Back home, the moment I stepped inside, the house was empty. I went straight to my room and decided to burn every single design draft I owned.

I searched through everything, pulling papers out of folders, boxes, drawers. Soon I had them all stacked up. Not a single one missing.

So if my drafts were still here, how had Selina been copying my work? Unless I was the crazy one, unless I really had been copying her.

Before long, my phone buzzed. The company group chat was on fire.

[Trash like her shouldn’t even be in this company. Might as well shut it down.]

[Can somebody get her out of the company?!]

[She acts so superior every day, and it turns out she’s a thief!]

The insults crawled across my screen, and my mind snapped back to my last life.

My phone had been bombarded nonstop by calls of them every day. People screamed abuse, insults, and ridicule at me. I ended up pulling the SIM card out.

So they started hunting down the apartment where was hiding. They camped outside with cameras, waiting like vultures, hoping I’d give them something new to tear apart.

Some were worse. They even hung a banner outside my door.

PLAGIARISM IS DISGUSTING. GO TO HELL BITCH.

I stayed inside for over a week, too terrified to step outside.

One night, I crawled out through the bushes to avoid being seen. I was starving. My food was gone. I crouched on the sidewalk and devoured a sandwich like an animal.

A kid walked by and threw a water bottle at me. Mom, that’s the thief from online. Then he spit at my face.

I was not upset by him. Instead, I just smiled at him calm and empty. His mother yanked him away like he’d touched something filthy.

I was done with living like this.

That day, I sat on a rooftop with no emotion left in e. I looked out over the city, and it felt rotten, like the air itself was dirty. The only person I couldn’t leave behind was my grandma out in the countryside.

When I came back to myself, I started packing. I wanted to go back to the country. Screw this stupid competition, forget all of it.

And thus, I sent my resignation email to the company and withdrew from the contest.

I still had no clue how Selina kept producing the exact same designs before I did. So fine, I would stop drawing. Let’s see what she would submit when there was nothing left for her to steal.
