**The Unseen Kingdom That Followed Me Into Every Dream by Alyndra Meron Valeen**
**Chapter 150**
In the dim light of the room, it was just Metis and me, an intriguing duo caught in the midst of an unexpected encounter. I found myself captivated by her astonishing beauty, the way her features seemed to glow even in the soft illumination. With a playful grin, I ventured, “So, Dr. Gorgeous. This must come with a hefty price tag, right?”
Her expression shifted, a frown creasing her brow. “You are going to pay me?” she asked, disbelief lacing her tone.
“Why not?” I replied, my voice laced with a hint of mischief. Then, a thought struck me, and I added, “Wait—don’t tell me that miracle workers like the Goddess of Medicine refuse payment. What do you expect instead? Gold bars? Company stock? Listen, my company is brand new. It literally just came into existence today. We haven’t even gone public yet!”
“I can’t believe you!” she exclaimed, her voice rising with irritation.
Her gaze sharpened, and she strode closer, until her face was mere inches from mine. I was suddenly acutely aware of her scent—a blend of sandalwood and perhaps an exotic herb, something that felt both calming and invigorating.
“And ‘Dr. Gorgeous’? Does that mean you’ve already forgotten who I am?” she pressed, her tone a mix of challenge and disappointment.
In that moment, I felt a wave of tension wash over me. When a woman poses a question like “guess what day it is,” the stakes are high, and a wrong answer is a surefire way to invite disappointment. This was even more critical; all she sought was a sign that I remembered her.
The truth was, I didn’t.
“Maybe? You look really familiar, Dr. Gorgeous. But I can’t quite place you. Have we met?” I stumbled through my words, feeling the weight of her expectations.
“You don’t remember!” Metis let out a frustrated sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly. Then, as if trying to soothe herself, she muttered, “But of course you don’t. You were in such a rush back then. You probably didn’t even catch what I said. The important thing is that I remembered you, Sebastian Grimwald!”
In a sudden, forceful motion, she grasped my collar, her eyes fierce. “I’ll tell you again, and this time you’d better not forget! Not now, not ever! You’ll carry this with you for the rest of your life!”
“Oh, really?” she asked, her eyes brightening with curiosity.
“Yeah. I remember feeling drowsier and drowsier, like I was succumbing to some chronic fatigue. But when I regrouped with my team, it turned out we all had the same symptoms!”
Metis blinked in surprise, her brows furrowing slightly. “Why was that?”
“Our theory was that some of the medicines burning inside released sleeping powder into the air. We were probably under its effect,” I explained, shrugging as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
To my surprise, Metis burst into laughter, a sound so genuine and infectious that it made my heart lift. She even reached out to pat my shoulder, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “That’s hilarious!”
In that moment, the tension between us began to dissipate, replaced by the warmth of shared memories and the promise of new ones yet to come.
