Chapter 121
Chapter 121
Levi’s POV
I read the text from Desmond and couldn’t help but smirk.

Desmond: Fuck you, asshole. We won, but my body is beat. Forest is also making us train tomorrow.
After I left yesterday, I told the guys right away. They didn’t take it against me. Instead, they told me to have a good rest and that they would handle everything.
The hockey news sites were flooded with my name, headlines, and stories from my past that I honestly had already forgotten about.
She didn’t expose my real family, though.
Margaret knew better than to touch that territory.
I scrolled past article after article before finally clicking on one covering the Glaciers versus the Forwards.
Glaciers 2-1.
Forest had scored one while Scott had scored the other.
The article highlighted how difficult the game had been from start to finish, praising the defense and how the Glaciers had barely managed to hold onto the lead until the final buzzer.
I was about to text Desmond to suck it up when someone suddenly called me.
I answered right away.
“Zayla.”
She stayed silent on the other end, but I already knew what was on her mind.
She had probably read all the articles already.
And with me not playing in this game, it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out that I wouldn’t be playing anytime soon.
She probably wouldn’t say anything about it because she’d think it would only upset me.
I already knew her personality.
“I sent you a cafe address,” she finally said. “I’ve been wanting to go there. Meet me in half an hour.”
With that, she ended the call.
I shook my head, chuckling to myself as I grabbed my car keys.

I knew her too well.

I drove to the cafe she had sent me and parked right in front. Before getting out, I pulled on a hat and a mask, making sure neither sat too noticeably on my face.
The moment I stepped inside, I quickly spotted her.
She was already there. Which meant I was definitely going to hear it.
As soon as I sat down, she started complaining.
“I’ve been here for four minutes, Levi. You know I don’t like waiting. I know I said half an hour, but it’s half an hour for me and fifteen minutes for you because you have a car…”
She abruptly stopped talking and simply stared at me.
The irritation disappeared from her face, replaced by concern.
“Are you okay?” she finally asked.
I sighed, took a drink of water, and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Aside from Hope still not wanting to tell me where she is, I’m fine. If it’s concerning the team, then I don’t have any concerns.”
The worried look in her eyes didn’t disappear. If anything, it only deepened.
“But you love hockey,” she muttered quietly.
“I can still play, Zayla. Besides, didn’t you tell me to rest? This is a good time for me to do that.”
“Yes, but you shouldn’t rest for the rest of your life! Why does it feel like you’re going to do exactly that?”
“I’m focusing on finding Hope for now,” I said, deliberately avoiding her question.
She pursed her lips.
“Do you want me to contact our family’s private investigator?”
“No,” I answered immediately.
“Hope wouldn’t want that. I’ll find her myself. Besides, you said you’re breaking off all contact with our family.”
She let out a long sigh before taking a sip from her bright green drink.
Matcha, I think.
I didn’t know.

To me, it tasted like grass.
:.
“But I also want you to find Hope,” she murmured. “I miss her too.”
I stayed silent.
The image of Hope’s smile naturally found its way into my mind.
That damn cute smile. The one that somehow made everything else disappear for a few seconds.
Fuck.
I couldn’t wait to see it again.

The more I thought about her, the more tempting it became to resort to methods she would absolutely hate just to find her.
I knew I was getting impatient.
So before my thoughts wandered any further, I forced myself to change the subject.
“How’s school?” I asked, straightening in my seat.
It looked like she still wanted to continue talking about Hope, but she held herself back.
After a moment, she sighed before lightly banging the table.
“Stressful,” she muttered.
“Are student athletes really that entitled? I have a project due next month, and I got paired with this guy from the school’s hockey team.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“He said that since it’s still due next month, he’ll be using the vacation given as a privilege to the players! Who does that when we have a school project?”
“It’s due next month,” I pointed out.
“And so?” She threw both hands into the air. “Isn’t it better to finish it now? Especially since he’s on break! He already doesn’t attend classes that much, but the professors are more lenient because he’s the current star player of the school.”
She groaned. “Gosh, I hate him.”
“Maybe he has something important to do.”
