Hope’s POV

“So, why did you come here specifically for my makeup?” Freya asked. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other. Are you having a career change now, Hope?”

She raised a brow inquisitively, amusement in her eyes like she already knew I was hiding something. I sighed and grabbed the makeup pack from her hands before she could question me further.

Freya had always been great at art.

She specialized in gore makeup-the kind that made people look like they had missing limbs or zombie bites. But when she realized fake blood unfortunately wasn’t a stable source of income, she tried wedding makeup instead

Despite her very obvious hatred for “boring pretty makeup,” she was incredible at it.

It became a great sideline for both of us.

I wasn’t that good, obviously.

I spent most jobs assisting-holding palettes, organizing brushes, cleaning tools, occasionally blending foundation and putting blush and lipstick. Still, over the years, I learned.

When Levi actually agreed to the photoshoot, I decided to rent her makeup kit.

Honestly, I wasn’t completely convinced he remembered our deal about me doing his makeup. However, knowing Levi’s moody self, there was an extremely high chance he’d sudden;y become fussy halfway through.

So naturally, I bombarded Freya’s apartment at an ungodly hour despite her protests, messy morning hair, and threats to block my number.

Unfortunately, I should’ve expected the interrogation.

“I told you already,” I said. “One of our players has a photoshoot.”

“And you’re doing makeup for them?” she asked slowly. Her raised brow climbed even higher.

I sighed again and ran my fingers through my hair before checking my watch.

“I have to go, Freya.”

She moved in front of the doorway. Freya’s frame completely blocked my exit.

“Hope,” she said with a suspicious smile. “Nobody is having a photoshoot this early.”

She pointed outside.

“The sun isn’t even out yet.”

I looked away.

“You came here specifically for that player.”

Her smile widened.

“And I need to know who and why.”

I pressed my lips together. I didn’t plan on telling her any of this. If I told her, I would never heard the end of it. Ever.

Suddenly, her expression changed to that of apprehension. “Fuck. Don’t tell me…,” she slowly said, making me dread her next words.

“Is it Connor?”

“I swear, Hope. If you’re still not over that dude-”

“No!” I practically shouted it. “It’s not him.”

“I don’t like that, guy anymore, Freya,” I said, crossing my arms.

“Besides, he has that rookie game in LA. He already went with Delaney.”

Her face relaxed slightly. Suspicion still remained.

“Aren’t you supposed to accompany him then?”

“Delaney can handle it.”

“Oh.”

She crossed her arms, before another look of realization passed through her eyes.

She pointed at me.

“Or maybe…”

“You have to accompany Levi Reeve to his photoshoot with Apollo.”

I nearly got whiplash with how fast I turned.

“What?”

My eyes widened.

“How did you know?”

“A-ha!”

She pointed at me again, a victorious glint in his eyes. “I knew it.”

“Freyyyy,” I whined.

“Were you seriously teasing me about not knowing?”

She laughed. “I honestly wasn’t sure. There were rumors online that Levi would finally do it. I just connected the dots.”

She flipped her hair. “I’m smart like that.”

I groaned. I immediately tried walking toward the exit again.

“Now that you know, let me go.”

“Oh no, baby.”

She smirked.

“Now that I know it’s Levi you’re accompanying?”

She blocked me again.

“I have even more reasons to make you stay.”

“What exactly do you need to know?”

She wrapped an arm around my shoulders, instantly trapping me again—this time, with her body.

“Have I ever told you,” she asked sweetly, “that you’re basically an open book to me?”

“Plenty of times.”

“Good.”

She smiled. “Your cheeks are red. You have this shy look. The exact same look you had whenever you thought about/Connor

back then.”

I turned toward her slowly.

She continued smiling.

“I mean, I can’t blame you,” she continued.

“Levi is a living sex god.”

I nearly choked.

“He’s mysterious too.”

She leaned closer.

“Nobody has ever dated him publicly.”

Her eyes sparkled. “Which means-are you going to be the first one to taste him?”

“FREYA!”

I pushed her away immediately, my face burning.

She laughed harder.

“God, you’re so fun to tease.”

She wiped fake tears from her eyes.
