Chapter 60
Hope’s POV

“Oh, this is so getting real,” Freya said as she dug through her closet, tossing hangers left and right in search of the perfect dress. “You actually bagged a date slash meet-up with Levi’s family? This is huge! Nobody has ever been able to dive deep into Levi’s family.”
“Let me correct you on that,” I said right away. “One, this is not a date. And second, I didn’t agree to this to learn more abou Levi’s family. His sister just asked me to come before she leaves for college.”
Freya snorted. “And you don’t even know his sister that well to send her off.”
“Frey,” I whined, dragging out her name.
That only made her laugh harder.
“Alright, alright. I know, Hope. You always have good intentions. Such a good girl,” she teased.
I shot her a glare. It lasted all of two seconds before she turned back to her closet, unaffected.
After a few moments, she suddenly pulled out a dress and held it up triumphantly.
“How about this?”
I took one look at the dress and pursed my lips.
“It’s very green,” Freya continued proudly, completely missing my expression. “And you’ll be the center of the party. I wore this in Miami one night and got admitted to all the clubs. Do you have any idea how difficult that is?”
“I’m sure it’s near impossible,” I said with a sigh. “But I’m also sure it would be a hundred percent impossible for me to wear that dress.”
Her face fell.
“I think the green in question we’re talking about is a deep green, not a neon green,” I added.
Freya narrowed her eyes at the dress as though seeing it for the first time.
“Huh.”
“And I definitely don’t want to be the center of attention, Frey. I’m not the birthday celebrant.”
“That makes sense.”
She tossed the dress aside and paused. “Oh,” she muttered, her eyes lighting up. “I do have something in the back of my closet, but I’ve never worn it before. It’s a tad bit too small for me, but I think it would fit you really well.”
Before I could ask any questions, she disappeared into her walk-in closet.
I leaned back against her bed and waited. I was starting to think she had gotten lost in there.
Freya’s apartment wasn’t huge by any means, but her walk-in closet was a sacred territory. When she first moved in, she had told me that having a walk-in closet was non-negotiable.
Apparently, she could survive without a dining table, but she absolutely could not survive without closet space.
Several minutes later, she finally emerged.

Chapter 60
The moment I saw what she was holding, my breath caught.

“Here,” Freya said casually, though I caught the small smile tugging at her lips. “Honestly, the size wasn’t the only problem. It’s the style, too.”
She handed it to me.
“I wanted to wear this on a date with a rich guy, but he bailed. Then I never got around to returning it because I realized it wasn’t really my style.”
I ran my fingers across the material.
It was beautiful. The satin fabric felt smooth beneath my fingertips, soft enough to resemble silk.
It had thin straps, a flattering V-shaped neckline, and a fitted waist that flared out just a bit at the skirt./
“I think it’s perfect for you, though,” I said honestly.
Freya barked out a laugh. “That’s exactly why it isn’t perfect for me.”
I looked down at the dress again. A strange nervousness settled in my stomach.
“Yeah,” I said softly. “I think it’s good.”
Then I glanced at her.
“Is it really okay for me to wear this?”
“Girl, it’s yours.”
Before I could react, she shoved the dress into my arms.
“The universe knows I will never be wearing that dress. Ever.”
A laugh escaped me.
“Thanks, Frey.”
She rolled her eyes and smacked my shoulder. “Quit acting like I lent you a million dollars. As payment, you should seduce Levi-”
“Frey.”
I didn’t even let her finish.
She burst out laughing.
“Alright, alright.”
She mimed zipping her lips shut.
“Get dressed and we’ll do your makeup.”
A few minutes later, I stepped into the dress. The moment the fabric settled against my skin, I knew Freya had been right. It fit surprisingly well.
Freya helped zip up the back, and once the zipper was fully in place, the dress hugged my body like it had been tailored specifically for me.

Chapter 60
I stared at myself in the mirror. The dress skimmed my figure perfectly.

Freya suddenly squeezed my shoulder before her hand moved. And before I could stop her, she gave my boob a quick
squeeze.
“Frey!”
She cackled. “What? They were too distracting.”
We stared at each other for a few moments before bursting into laughter.
By the time we were done laughing, she had already moved on to the next phase of her mission. Hair and/makeup. Freya transformed her room into a beauty studio in under three minutes. Everything appeared in front of her like magic.
I eyed the growing collection nervously.
“I don’t want it to look-”
“Like you’ve tried too hard,” Freya finished without even looking up.
“I know you, Hope,” she added with a small smile. “And honestly, you’re not the type to need a lot of makeup anyway. You’re just beautiful like that.”
Heat immediately rushed to my cheeks.
“Stop.”
“I’m serious.”
I pursed my lips and looked away. Compliments always made me awkward.
Freya only smiled knowingly before returning to her work.
After that, I simply let her do whatever she wanted.
Because the truth was, having a best friend like Freya was one of the biggest blessings in my life. She was loud when I was quiet. She was fearless when I was nervous. I honestly didn’t know what I would do without her.
The thought warmed something deep inside my chest.
Maybe that was why I relaxed enough to close my eyes.
The next thing I knew, I was being shaken awake.
I jolted upright.
My hand instinctively moved toward my face to rub my eyes. However, a sharp smack stopped me.
“Ow!”
