Chapter 62

Hope’s POV

This place was a scene straight out of a film. I knew New York housed rich neighborhoods, but I guess I had never been exposed to it. The moment we pulled up at the driveway, it was already apparent.

When we got to their gate, it took a while before we got to their front door.

“This way, Miss,” Karl said, leading me to a smaller door that wasn’t the main entrance.

As I opened the door, Zayla greeted me right away.

She was so pretty! Despite the bright green being very apparent, she wasn’t washed out by it. However she beat me to my thoughts and spoke.

“What the hell? You’re so pretty, Hope!”

“I mean, you were pretty the first time I saw you, but goddamn, you look great right now. Since when have you had such voluptuous boobs?” she asked.

“Zayla, you’re exaggerating,” I muttered.

“No way. I’m many things, but I don’t exaggerate,” she said. “I undermine, actually.”

Then, she held onto my wrist, turning to Karl once and waving.

“Thanks for bringing her here!”

Karl bowed and went back to his car while Zayla led me through the maze of the mansion, where all I could do was stare at the great infrastructure.

“Is Levi here already?” I asked, making her stop in her tracks.

She then turned to me with a teasing smile, making me look at her with confusion.

“You really can’t be away from my brother, hmm? What’s so charming about him? He kind of has a nasty personality when you first get to know him, but the more you speak with him, the more tolerable he gets. I don’t get this one, but they say he’s handsome, too. I guess I’ll give him that one,” she continued.

I had to stop her.

“I don’t like your brother like that.”

“Oh,” she muttered. “So, I guess it really is more complicated than I thought, huh? Well, I didn’t expect anything less from his first relationship. He might even mess it up at one point.”

“Anyway,” she continued, not giving me any time to butt in. “If you see any weird relatives, don’t mind them and don’t listen to them. Stick with me most of the time, or once Levi comes, stick with him.”

With that, she continued dragging me until we reached a large hall where a dining table was laid out.

It didn’t feel like any ordinary dining table. It felt like those in dramas where the characters would be fighting for their inheritance passively.

The servers were busy arranging the table, while people dressed in green spoke with each other.

I stayed close to Zayla as she advised, looking around for Levi’s familiar silhouette.

Most of them greeted Zayla, and most also looked at me with curiosity.

However, Zayla didn’t give them the opportunity to get too close.

“Come here! I’ll introduce you to Levi’s friend,” she said.

I got whiplashed as she dragged me to another part of the hall.

“Matthias!” she exclaimed.

My eyebrows raised when I saw Matthias waiting by the mobile bar.

His eyes lit up the moment he saw me.

“Hope? You’re here?”

“Wait, you two already know each other?” Zayla asked.

I nodded. “We’ve been introduced.”

“Levi actually allowed you to come?” he asked.

“Hmm?” I asked, tilting my head to the side. “Allowed? Zayla invited me.”

Matthias pursed his lips and turned to Zayla before nodding his head in understanding.

“I see. I see. This is why you’re my favorite Moretti. You always have great plans under your sleeve,” he said to Zayla, patting her head, causing the younger one to giggle.

“I’m the only tolerable Moretti,” she proudly said.

“You’re right about that,” Matthias smiled. “The other Morettis are too crazy for me. Imagine how crazy that sounds when I’m crazy myself.”

“You two are close, too?” I asked, their attention turning to me.

“Of course,” Matthias said. “Naturally, I would get close to Levi’s family. I only came here because Zayla asked, though. I’m not one to engage in their family matters. It just gets crazy in here.”

“With Levi coming here, though, I’m waiting for some good drama.”

Zayla giggled. “I honestly can’t wait to watch Levi school them. Having him here is always a blast because he’s not afraid of the adults.”

I couldn’t help but smile at that, too.

That did sound a lot like Levi.

“Oop,” Zayla suddenly said. “Speaking of Levi. It seems I’ve been caught.”

I turned to her and saw her gaze focused on someone from afar.

I followed her gaze, and immediately forgot what I was about to say.

Levi’s eyes were already on us, and he was walking toward us.

My heart skipped a beat.

I had seen him countless times already.

I had seen him in casual clothes. I had seen him in his uniform. I had seen him looking exhausted after training. I had seen him annoyed, amused, angry, and completely expressionless. Yet somehow, every time he appeared unexpectedly, it felt like seeing him for the first time.

Tonight was no exception.

The dark green suit he wore fit him perfectly, as though it had been tailored exclusively for him. The jacket emphasized his broad shoulders, while the black dress shirt underneath made the green stand out even more.

His dark hair was neatly styled, though a few stubborn strands still fell slightly forward.

People noticed him the second he entered.

I wasn’t the only one watching.

Conversations seemed to quiet down, and several relatives turned their heads.

Levi didn’t seem to care.

He walked through the hall with the same calm expression he always wore, hands in his pockets as though he wasn’t entering a gathering full of people waiting to scrutinize him.

His gaze locked onto mine, his annoyance seemingly increasing with every step he took.

“Oh, she’s gone,” Matthias said beside me.

“What?”

“He means you’re staring at him too much,” Zayla informed me.

“I am not,” I quickly denied.

“You look like you’re in a romance movie.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but shut it when Levi finally reached us.

His gaze swept over me once. But somehow, that single glance made my face heat up.
