Chapter 70
Levi’s POV
He didn’t speak for a while, letting my words linger inside the car.

“Fuck,” he cursed after a moment. “I never thought I’d live to see the day when you’d be asking me for relationship advice.”-
I let out a deep breath and massaged the bridge of my nose with one hand, the other still gripping the steering wheel.
“It’s not about me,” I denied, turning to glare at him.
The teasing look in his eyes made me regret asking the question already.
“Just forget about it,” I sighed and focused on the road ahead.
I was seriously considering dropping this motherfucker off at the nearest station. I didn’t care if the airport road was still far from the city center. He was pissing me off.
“Honestly, I’d just follow what I feel,” he said.
My frown eased slightly. For once, the bastard actually sounded serious, so I kept driving despite approaching a drop-off point.
“I’m the kind of person who acts on what he wants and what he doesn’t want,” he continued. “I think we’re pretty similar in that regard. The difference is that I sugarcoat my actions more than you do. You have a nastier personality.”
“I told you. It’s not for me.”
“Sure, sure,” he muttered.
“Do you want me to drop you off here?” I threatened.
“What?” he exclaimed. “That’s miles away from my place.”
“Then stop with the nonsense,” I snapped.
“Goodness, I can never win with you,” Matthias grumbled.
I shot him a look.
“Honestly, I’m probably the wrong person to ask about feelings and relationships. You know I don’t exactly have a stellar track record.”
He wasn’t wrong. Matthias was a playboy through and through. The fact that he couldn’t even keep the one serious relationship he’d had until the end said enough.
“But if I had to give advice,” he continued, leaning back in his seat,/”it’d be this-and it’s something I should probably tell myself, too.”
I stayed quiet.
“Stop overcomplicating things and see them for what they are.”
My grip tightened slightly around the steering wheel.
“Just tell that person how you feel and start from there.”

Tell that person how you feel.
How the fuck was I supposed to do that when I didn’t even know what I was feeling?
That was the problem.
There was one thing I was certain about, though.
My body was feeling a hell of a lot better. The first game of the season was getting closer, and for some reason, hockey hadn’t been occupying my thoughts lately.
That alone was strange. Hockey had always been there. Yet for the past week, another distraction had taken its place. A woman who hadn’t even been in my life for very long.
We were scheduled for another rehabilitation session today, but Matthias’ advice kept replaying in my head.
As I drove home yesterday, I should’ve been furious at my family for ruining Zayla’s party. Instead, my mind had been consumed by something else. The memory of what had happened inside the car with Hope kept resurfacing, no matter how many times I shoved it away.
If I were going to be honest with her…
My thoughts came to an abrupt stop as I arrived outside the rehabilitation room.
I was about to knock when I noticed the door was already slightly ajar.
Frowning, I pushed it open just enough to peek inside. The moment I saw who was inside, my mood darkened.
Fucking Connor.
The bastard was sitting on the treatment bed, his attention focused on Hope.
Hope turned around to grab some supplies, and I saw the way Connor looked at her. His eyes slowly traveled over her body -up and down. Then, his tongue darted out to wet his lips.
My jaw tightened.
The asshole cheated on her. He also had a girlfriend. Yet he was looking at Hope like that?
What a fucking bastard.
“What happened this time?” Hope muttered as she walked back toward him with the supplies.
“Remove your shirt, so I can see,” she added.
The moment the words left her mouth, something flared inside me. I knew she was being professional. But Connor sure as hell wasn’t treating this professionally.
A smirk appeared on his face as he grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it over his head.
“You’ve been too focused on Levi lately,” he said casually.
My eyes narrowed.
“So you forgot you have other players to take care of. He’s not the only center on the team, you know.”
She ignored the comment and began preparing the bandages.

“Isn’t Delaney handling everything while I’m away?” she asked absently.
Connor leaned back slightly.
“Yeah.”
Hope started wrapping the bandage around his shoulder.

It was on the same side as my injury. It might have been a coincidence, but as I watched him sit there, looking too pleased with himself, I couldn’t help feeling like he was exaggerating the injury.
Hell, part of me wondered if he’d made the whole thing up just to get her attention.
“You sure this hurts?” Hope asked.
Connor chuckled.
“It depends,” he responded, his gaze never leaving her.
“Why didn’t you tell this to Delaney sooner?” she asked in exasperation. “You could have gotten it iced, at the very least. Did you even tell her?”
“Yeah, but I realized something,” he said softly.
Hope continued adjusting the bandage.
“What now?”
Connor didn’t answer for a moment, his hand leaving the bed and grasping her wrist instead. My fists unconsciously clenched this time.
