Chapter 89
Levi’s POV

How many times have we had this conversation? This was the first instance she had cornered me inside a hotel room-Ill give her that. However, this wasn’t the first time she had asked me for another chance.
I met Delaney when I first entered the team. Back then, I was more amicable with those around me. A rookie still had to act like a rookie to some extent. Coach Dennis was recruited at the same time, and he often brought her to work.
She was very curious about hockey back then, so I taught her a lot. She said it was her dream to become the manager for the team, and I didn’t think much of it. I answered her questions, no matter how repetitive and annoying they could get.
However, now I regret answering those questions years ago.
She confessed to me the same day I won my first championship, and her attempts continued every year after that. I fejected her each time, but she was relentless.
She moved to hug me, and I stepped back, giving her a look that said she shouldn’t try anything. However, that didn’t deter her. Instead, she moved even closer and wrapped her arms around me.
I felt a chill run down my spine-but it wasn’t the good kind. She held onto me for dear life while she ranted.
“I’d been here for you all this time. Can’t you see, Levi? The universe is pulling us closer to one another, but you’re the only one who keeps pulling away.”
I let out a deep breath. I didn’t believe in destiny and that kind of shit, so this was becoming more infuriating.
“I’ve always wanted the best for you. That’s why I dated around. I thought that other men would do it for me, but no, Levi. It has always been you. It’s always been you for me.”
I finally had enough. I placed my hands on her arms despite my aversion to the action and pushed her away. I moved toward the door, but this woman was even quicker than I had expected. She positioned herself in front of it again, and tears began streaming down her face.
“Why is it that Hope is so close to you when I’ve been here longer, Levi? How can you talk with her so easily when it took you years to open up to some?”
“Four years! I’ve liked you for four fucking years, and you’ve always rejected me.”
Her voice grew firmer, and I knew there was no saving her at that point.
However, at that moment, I also found myself asking…
Were the feelings I had for Hope really that special?
So special that I hadn’t even realized how deeply they had taken root?
So special that I would actually show her my world… or even destroy the one I was living in just for her?
“Hope is…”
I thought about it long and hard.
About what I felt for her.
About why I always had the urge to go to her.
Chapter 89
Why I always wanted to be close to her-and no one else.
Not Connor.
And especially not Liam.
“…special,” I finally acknowledged.

“She hasn’t been in my life for very long, but she has made me feel things I’ve never felt before,” I continued a small smile appearing on my lips as I thought about her.
She was the first person to cry for me because of my family.
She was the first person who convinced me to rest when nobody else had ever succeeded. Not even Zayla.
She even convinced me to become the cover of the magazine, and the only reason I agreed was that I didn’t want her to be with Connor.
Fuck.
I hate to admit it.
But Matthias was right.
“She’s the most special person in my life right now,” I said, looking up to meet Delaney’s eyes.
The look in her eyes should have scared me.
Instead, it only made me want to look for Hope again.
I took advantage of the fact that she was stunned into silence. I reached for the door, opened it quickly, and stepped out into the hallway. I sighed in relief as fresh air filled my lungs instead of her suffocating perfume.
However, the relief didn’t last.
I felt her hug me again, this time even tighter.
She had come up behind me, and it felt like she had no intention of letting go.
“Delaney,” I sighed, growing tired of this. “Let go now. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You’re already hurting me,” she sobbed against my back, and again, I felt a shiver of disgust run down my spine.
The only person who should ever be crying while holding me was Hope.
And I wasn’t talking about crying from sadness. I was talking about pleasure.
“You’re already hurting me,” Delaney repeated, and I felt more hot tears soak through the back of my shirt. “How could you find her special?”
“She has nothing. Did you know? When she and Connor were in a relationship, she had nothing to offer him. She’s not good for anything.”
I clicked my tongue.
“Well, she must be good for me then.”
Her grip loosened for a brief second before tightening again.
