A chair leg screeched against the floor, startling Lyla.
"Grant, where are you going..."
Grant didn't answer. His heavy, hurried footsteps echoed through the room.
The crowd parted for him automatically. Everyone could see that Mr. Gauthier was on the warpath.
Sienna sensed the shift in the room. Before she could even turn around, a familiar figure radiating fury stopped dead in front of her and Lucas.
"Sienna!"
Grant ground her name out through clenched teeth, every syllable dripping with suppressed rage.
Sienna finally met his gaze. Her eyes were impossibly clear—no surprise, no evasion, not a single ripple of emotion.
"Is there something else, Mr. Gauthier?"
Her flat, indifferent tone effortlessly deflected his aggressive momentum.
Grant's chest heaved. His predatory gaze dropped to the sapphire resting against her collarbone before snapping back up to her face, his voice dark and gravelly.
"Take it off," he commanded.
Sienna glanced down at the necklace. "Why?" she asked, feigning innocent confusion.
"It's a gift from another man," Grant snapped, his eyes locking onto hers. "Parading it around in broad daylight—have you no shame?"
Before he could finish, Lucas let out a low chuckle.
The sound wasn't loud, but it sliced right through the thick, tense air.
"For a man with such limited capabilities, you certainly have a lot of rules, Mr. Gauthier," Lucas drawled. He held his wine glass with casual elegance, but his words were razor-sharp. "Although, I have to ask—in what capacity are you making demands of Sienna?"
He paused, pretending to ponder the question before his face lit up in mock realization. "Could it be... as the deadbeat ex?"
