Grant clamped a hand over his mouth, letting out a dry heave.

"Grant, what's wrong?" Lyla rushed over, her voice dripping with fake concern as she rubbed his back.

The heavy, suffocating perfume radiating off her hit his senses, its sickly sweetness making him want to vomit.

"Get the hell out," he growled.

Lyla opened her mouth to speak, but Grant snatched the glass of milk from the nightstand and hurled it violently at the doorframe.

Shards of glass exploded in every direction, the white liquid dripping down the wall.

"I said get the hell out!"

Lyla shrieked and scrambled out of The Master Suite as fast as she could.

The door slammed shut behind her.

Out in the hallway, Lyla leaned against the wall, gasping for air.

She looked down at her trembling hands, the terror in her eyes slowly morphing into venomous resentment.

Sienna was already a corpse. Why did she still have a hold on his heart?

It didn't matter. The dead could never compete with the living.

She touched her stomach, a triumphant smirk spreading across her lips.

...

For the next three days, Grant didn't step foot outside The Master Suite.

The manor staff left meals outside his door on time every day, only to take them away completely untouched the next morning.

The only sound from the room was the clinking of bottles.

Grant sat among the wreckage, half a bottle of whiskey dangling from his grip.

The high-proof alcohol burned a trail down his throat, setting a fire in his stomach that caused him to double over in pain.

But it wasn't enough.

What was this tiny fraction of pain compared to the suffocating despair Sienna had endured?

He began tearing through the room, desperately trying to find any remaining piece of her in the space they had shared for eight years.

But she had moved her belongings out long ago, and even when she was forced to return, she hadn't brought a single thing with her.

Like a madman, Grant yanked open every drawer and tore up the rugs.

Nothing.
