Madeline opened her mouth to argue back, but she couldn't form a single coherent syllable.

For the first time in her life, she stood at the center of a firing squad of telephoto lenses, being dissected layer by layer like a criminal on trial.

Over on the other side, Grant wasn't faring any better.

"Mr. Gauthier, give us a response!"

"Can you explain the basement allegations?"

A young reporter squeezed right up to his side, the microphone nearly clipping his chin.

Grant reflexively took a half-step back, his shoulders hitting a freezing pillar. That bitter chill seeped right through his expensive suit, sinking deep into his bones.

He opened his mouth, cycling through three or four different excuses in his head, but ultimately failed to spit out a single word.

Seeing things spiraling out of control, Parker Reed rushed over.

Shielding him from the cameras, Parker hissed into his ear, "Mr. Gauthier, we need to leave. Now."

Grant's gaze shot over the crowd, landing on the woman in the black dress standing in the center of the room.

Not far away, Sienna stood with a relaxed posture, quietly chatting with someone nearby, utterly unbothered by the chaos around him.

That only fueled his fury.

It was all this woman's fault for ruining his memorial exhibition for his wife. She was his absolute nemesis!

"Mr. Gauthier!" Parker's voice grew urgent. "The press is already blocking the exits. If we stall any longer, no one will be able to suppress tonight's headlines."

Madeline finally found her voice, screeching some profanity as Parker's assistants half-carried, half-dragged her toward the side door.

As she was leaving, she tried to turn back and curse at Seraphina one last time, but she lost her footing. Her heel caught in the carpet seam.

She stumbled and collapsed hard onto the ground.

It was a deeply undignified fall, shattering the very last shred of pride she held as the matriarch of the Gauthier family.

The surrounding guests instinctively stepped back with complicated expressions. Not a single person reached out to help her up.
