A few were blurry, but she had printed them anyway and framed them beautifully.
Sienna dismantled the frames and pulled the photos out.-
Then she walked over to the trash can by the door and, right in front of them, dumped the entire stack inside.
Next was the scarf. She had spent three months knitting it, unraveling it and re-knitting it time and time again, but Grant had never worn it.
No, he had flat-out refused it.
He had actually thrown the scarf hard at her face.
"You dare give me something so cheap?"
"If you have no shame, Sienna, I do."
She had kept it in the room ever since, but now, that went into the trash too.
Lyla watched uncomfortably from the side, tugging on Grant's sleeve to whisper, "Is she putting on a show for us?"
Grant said nothing, his eyes locked on the pile in the trash can.
He didn't care about those things, but Sienna throwing them away right in front of him was a blatant sign of disrespect.
Sienna pulled the last item from the drawer: a wedding band.
Grant hadn't bought it for her; she had saved up for half a year to have the matching rings custom-made.
She had always worn hers, but Grant had never accepted his, leaving it abandoned in her drawer.
The two rings rested in her palm. They felt incredibly light.
Sienna closed her fingers, then opened them, letting the rings clink into the trash can.
The hand Grant used to hold his mug trembled slightly, sending ripples across the coffee.
He set the mug down, closed the distance in two strides, and grabbed Sienna's wrist with a crushing grip.
But a second later, his eyes widened slightly.
He had grabbed this wrist before. Whenever she misbehaved, he would grab it, pulling her hard to shove or drag her away.
He remembered this wrist having some weight to it, feeling soft and warm.
But now, he was holding nothing but bone, and her skin was terrifyingly cold.
She was as light as a piece of paper; his pull had nearly sent her toppling over.
Grant's fingers tightened for a fraction of a second, lost in some unknown thought, before releasing her.
"Good riddance. Now they won't be an eyesore."
With that, he turned and left without a backward glance.
Sienna was left alone in the room, surrounded by a suffocating silence.
She looked down at the trash can.
So she could continue doing what she loved and chasing her dreams.
But fate was cruel, and now she only had twenty-eight days left.
Her life was slipping away, but her dream was rebooting.
In the time she had left, she could finally pick up her brush again.
Sienna's fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment.
Then she started typing.
"Hunter, I'm back."
Email sent successfully.
Outside the window, the city lights flickered, and cabs drove past the building one after another.
Sienna shut her laptop and lay down in bed.
Her lower back began to ache again, so she wedged a pillow under it and rolled over.
Her phone screen lit up with a reply from Hunter.
"Do you have any idea how long I've waited for this email? Eight years!"
"Please tell me what city you're in. I'm flying over right now."
