"If I ever find out you're bullying Sienna again, I'll wipe you off the face of the earth."

Susan trembled violently, but suddenly, a surge of spite overrode her fear.

"I'll tell Mr. Gauthier! He won't let you get away with this!"

Lucas looked completely unfazed. "Let him try."

The engine roared to life, and the black Bentley glided smoothly out of the estate gates.

The car was quiet.

Sienna leaned against the leather seat, watching the city streets blur past the window. Eight years, and the gilded cage that had trapped her was finally behind her.

It grew smaller and smaller until it was nothing more than a speck in the rearview mirror.

She pulled her gaze away and closed her eyes.

Her phone buzzed.

Glancing at the screen, she saw it was Hadley Hale.

"Sienna, I got the drafts," Hadley's voice poured through the speaker, brimming with irrepressible excitement.

"This is a masterpiece! Seriously, Sienna, you are an absolute genius!"

"You're not just going to win the 'Emerging Voices' award with this. You're going to completely annihilate the competition!"

Sienna opened her eyes. "You're flattering me, Hadley."

"It's not flattery, it's a fact," Hadley insisted firmly. "This competition is your comeback as 'K'. You need to make an explosive return. I've already sent the pieces out for framing. I'll text you the address."

"Alright."

Ending the call, Sienna set her phone down.

The car turned down a quiet, tree-lined avenue and pulled up in front of a sleek, modern building.

"We're here," Lucas announced.

Sienna looked out the window. The architecture was clean and sharp, bathed in natural light.

She lowered her eyelashes, her gaze drifting over the row of brand-new paint tubes on the windowsill. Her fingertips lightly brushed against one.

Winsor & Newton Professional grade. Every single tube cost a small fortune, and they were the exact shades she preferred.

The man was so meticulous it bordered on ruthless, yet it was this exact ruthlessness that made her feel secure.

For some reason, even though he and Grant both wore unreadable expressions, they were worlds apart.

She couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was, but at least Lucas didn't make her skin crawl, and he never made her feel as worthless as Grant did.

Back at the estate, Susan stood frozen in place, watching the taillights disappear down the road.

It took her several seconds to snap out of her stupor. Fumbling frantically, she pulled out her phone and dialed with trembling fingers.

The line connected.

"M-Mr. Gauthier..." Her voice shook, on the verge of tears as she babbled into the receiver.

"It's a disaster! Mrs. Gauthier was just picked up by a man! And they looked awfully cozy together!"
