"Hurry! Prep for emergency resuscitation."
The medical team swarmed the bed in an instant. The piercing shriek of the monitors filled the room.
Grant instinctively took a step toward the doorway, but then his foot stopped.
Lyla needed him. If he cowered up here while she was being crucified downstairs, what kind of man was he?
Besides, his assistant had just briefed him on the crisis below. The very second he decided to go down, Sienna miraculously had an episode.
It was entirely too convenient.
She was just playing games again, refusing to fix the mess herself and actively trying to stop him from doing it.
Women like her were beyond pathetic.
Because the doctors had rushed in, the door remained open.
Grant stood in the hallway, watching the chaotic scene unfold.
His eyes landed on Sienna, and in her delirium, her gaze met his.
There was no warmth in his stare. No anxiety. Only a chilling, calculated weighing of his options.
Then, she watched as Grant turned his back on her. He headed straight for the elevators without a single backward glance.
His pace was hurried, almost like he was fleeing.
Lucas heard the rapid footsteps fade away at the elevator bank.
He looked down at the woman on the bed, who had already passed out from the excruciating pain, tears slipping silently down her cheeks. His scowl deepened.
Downstairs.
When Grant stormed out of the elevator, Lyla was being relentlessly pushed back by the mob of reporters. She was inches from collapsing.
"Mr. Gauthier is here."
Even Lyla froze, looking up at him in genuine shock.
"As for Sienna," Grant's tone turned frigid and dripping with contempt, "she is my wife in a strictly legal sense. Nothing more."
"If you want to know why she sent her parents to extort me for money, or why she is spreading malicious rumors online, I suggest you do your own digging instead of harassing Lyla here."
"Mr. Gauthier, are you implying that Sienna Sawyer completely fabricated the rumors against you?"
"I am stating," Grant cut the reporter off, pulling Lyla tighter into his chest in a blatant display of protection.
"Lyla is a thousand times the woman she will ever be. She has been wronged because of me, and today, I am going to make things right for her."
With that, he refused to entertain another question. Keeping Lyla shielded in his arms, he forcefully pushed his way through the crowd with his security team running interference.
Camera flashes exploded in a blinding frenzy, the rapid-fire clicking echoing endlessly.
That exact visual, paired with his explosive declaration, hijacked the front page of every major outlet within minutes.
