He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Confusion flickered across a few faces.

“You’re just letting her walk?” Another girl asked and Mabel’s smile persisted.

“I said let her go.”

Then her gaze locked onto mine.

“I know exactly what to do.”

And just like that, the grip on my arms loosened.

I didn’t wait.

I turned.

And I walked.

Fast.

Not running. I refused to run. But fast enough that I didn’t have to think about what exactly she meant by that.

Because whatever it was, It wasn’t good.

I didn’t stop until I was out of that building.

And even then, I didn’t slow down.

Because I had something more urgent to deal with.

My money.

If I survived humiliation and possible future assault for that math competition and didn’t get paid, I might actually lose it.

I got to Mr. Douglas’ office and knocked once before pushing the door open.

I didn’t wait to be called in.

He didn’t deserve waiting.

“Good day, sir.”

He looked up slowly.

“Oh… Lucy.”

I frowned at him.

“It’s Daisy,” I said flatly. “And yes, I’m here for my money.”

He straightened a bit.

“Ah, yes, Daisy, of course. There was just a slight-”

“Mix-up?” I supplied.

“Yes.”

Of course there was.

“I was just sorting out the final list-”

“I was part of the winning team,” I cut in. “It’s not that hard to sort.”

He smiled awkwardly.

“It will be sent within the next hour.”

I stared at him for a moment.

Then nodded once.

Mentally, I gave him one hour.

After that, I didn’t even know what I would do- but I knew it wouldn’t be polite.

I turned and left before I said something that would get me suspended.

My phone buzzed then.

Aria: Where are you, girl?

I exhaled.

“Heading to the cafeteria.”

Aria: I’ll meet you there.

Good

I needed normal.

At the cafeteria, I sat down, staring at nothing in particular, debating if I should get food when Aria appeared like she had been

launched from somewhere.

She dropped into the seat across from me.

“So,” she started immediately, “yesterday.”

I smiled lightly.

“Yesterday.”

“That went well,” she said. “Right?”

“It did,” I replied. “It was… good.”

She lit up.

“I knew it. He’s even better in person.”

I forced my smile to stay normal.

“He is… less intense,” I said carefully.

“Less intimidating,” she corrected. “But still dangerous.”

I blinked.

Dangerous.

Yeah.

That was one word for it.

“I like that,” she added casually.

Of course she did.

“I need to know how you met him,” she said suddenly and excitedly.

Oh.

No

No no No that.

My brain immediately started buffering.

“Um,” I began aimlessly, then kept going.

“So I was driving.. my mom’s car, on a windy afternoon-”

Why was it windy?

Why did I say windy?

“And then I went to park at a supermarket,” I continued, already committed, “and someone slammed into my car.”
