Chapter 116
“…True.”
Thank God.
She finally grabbed her things and headed farther into the apartment while I escaped toward my room before another question
could find me.
On the way, I glanced at the sheen of sweat on my hand and frowned at it.
“You need to stop,” I whispered to my skin. “This amount of liquid is unnecessary.”
“What?” Lillian called from behind me.
I jerked.
“Nothing!”
I glared at my hand one last time before disappearing into the bathroom.
By evening, I had stopped sweating.
Which was progress.
Mentally?
Different conversation.
I sat curled on the couch now, scrolling aimlessly through my phone while the sky outside darkened slowly.
Videos.
Pictures.
Old posts.
Unfortunately, one of the first things my foryoupage decided to bless me with was the cursed kiss-cam video.
I stared at the thumbnail like it had personally ruined my life, then came the one Mabel uploaded.
The makeover disaster.
I still didn’t understand why they had contoured my nose like they were trying to prepare me for burial.
I sighed and kept scrolling.
My foot started tapping again but I stopped it immediately.
Then it started again five seconds later.
Then, the front door opened and my head snapped up so fast my neck almost filed a complaint.
DeLuca stepped inside.
And suddenly my entire body became annoyingly alert.
He closed the door behind him calmly before his gaze landed on me.
There was a brief pause, then I spoke first.
“Had fun?”
His expression barely changed.
“Were you waiting up for me?”
“Definitely not,” I said immediately. “I was just sitting here using my phone. Which is a perfectly normal activity.”
“What are you doing on your phone?”
“That’s none of your business.”
“Okay.”
And then he started walking away.
Excuse me?
I sat up straighter.
“So,” I called after him, “did you have fun?”
He didn’t stop walking.
“I don’t do fun.” He said and my next words escaped before I could stop them.
“What about sex?”
Silence
My eyes widened.
Oh no.
Oh, that was catastrophic.
I slapped my hand over my mouth instantly, but it was too late. The sentence had already escaped into society.
