Chapter 135
(Daisy’s POV)
The eye contact held.
Me at one end of the auditorium.
DeLuca at the other.
And for one stupid second, my chest loosened slightly because I genuinely thought he was about to stand up and conte toward me.
Not dramatically or romantically.
Just… naturally.
Because I was standing there.
Because we clearly had unresolved tension hanging between us like unpaid rent.
Because I had texted him earlier asking where he was. And because surely seeing me here meant something.
So I waited while DeLuca looked at me.
Then Mabel said something beside him. And just like that, his attention shifted away from me.
He turned toward her slightly while she smiled, talking animatedly about something I couldn’t hear. He gave a small nod in response, calm and effortless,
while the conversation around him continued naturally.
Mabel still hadn’t noticed me.
Which somehow made this worse.
Because none of this was being done to hurt me. That would have at least implied intention.
No.
This was just happening.
Comfortably.
Easily.
Like I didn’t exist.
Something sharp roamed painfully in my chest.
Then DeLuca laughed quietly at something one of the guys said, and that was enough for me.
I turned immediately and walked away before my composure fully dissolved in public.
By lunchtime, I was sitting alone in the cafeteria with untouched food in front of me.
Which was disturbing. Actually disturbing
Because I always wanted food.
Even during emotional crises.
Even during near-death experiences.
Even during kidnappings.
Yet now I sat there staring blankly at a burger like we were going through relationship problems
My phone rested beside the tray, lighting up every few seconds with new messages from Aria.
“Hey girl.”
“I’ve been calling.”
“Where are you??”
“Did you come to school today?”
“Daisy!”
I stared at the texts for a while without replying. Not because I was angry with her.
I just… couldn’t.
