Chapter 171
[Daisy’s POV)
Archer was calling.
And I stared at my screen contemplating.
Technically, picking up wasn’t a terrible idea. He had sent me several messages after everything that happened, and unlike Aria, he had at least been trying to reach me. More importantly, earlier he had asked me to talk to him, and I’d promised that I would,
The problem was that things were already complicated enough.
Archer wasn’t the problem. He was still my friend, and that wasn’t going to change. But the situation surrounding him had somehow become tangled up with everything else going wrong in my life, and until I figured out where things stood between bebuca and me, the last thing I wanted to do was accidentally create another misunderstanding.
So I resisted the temptation and slipped my phone away.
Eventually my wandering brought me to the edge of campus, where I could already hear the distant roar of the championship crowd.
A smile tugged at my lips.
Well.
That answered the question.
If I wasn’t going to class and I wasn’t going to spend the morning staring at my phone waiting for Aria to respond, then I might as well go see what everyone else was so excited about.
I felt lighter about going there today and the closer I got to the stadium, the louder everything became.
By the time I reached the entrance, the energy in the air was almost physical. Cheers rolled across the massive seating area in waves, accompanied by whistles, chants, laughter, and enough excitement to make the entire place feel alive and like it had its own breath.
Students filled nearly every section of the stands.
Some wore school colors.
Others carried signs.
Several seemed more interested in recording videos than watching the actual matches.
The championship had completely taken over campus.
After weaving my way through the crowd, I eventually found an empty seat at the upper level and settled into it just as one team completed a particularly brutal play (goal) that caused more than half the audience to leap to their feet.
I winced.
The players, meanwhile, simply got up and did it all over again.
Honestly, I would not survive five minutes down there.
The amount of running, tackling, and general willingness to collide with another human being at full speed felt deeply concerning.
