Chapter 174
(DeLuca’s POV)
For a moment, I simply stared.
A gunshot had rung through the stadium less than a secondo, chaos was already beginning to erupt around us, and yet none of it registered properly because Daisy had suddenly gone limp in my arms.
At first, my mind refused to process what I was seeing.
One second she had been talking.
The next, the strength seemed to leave her body entirely.
“Daisy.”
My voice came out sharper than intended as I gripped her shoulders and looked down at her face. Her eyes were half-lidded now, the brightness that always seemed to burn inside them fading in a way that immediately put every instinct I possessed on edge.
“Daisy.”
No response.
My heart slammed once against my ribs. Hard.
The noise around us was growing louder with every passing second as spectators ran in every direction, but I barely heard any of it. My entire focus narrowed onto the woman in girl of me as I shook her gently and searched her face for some sign that she was still there.
“Daisy, look at me!”
Nothing.
Then my gaze dropped.
Blood,
There was too much of it, and the sight hit me harder than anything else.
The bullet had hit her and seeing this, panic surged through me.
“Medic!”
The word tore out of my throat before I even realized I was shouting.
“Medic!”
Several heads turned.
Nobody moved fast enough.
“Darty!
My voice rose a 1 cupped the side of her face
“Daisy, wake up.”
Still nothing.
The silence felt wrong… because Daisy was never silent.
She talked too much, argued too much, questioned everything, and somehow managed to turn serious situations into something ridiculous more often than not.
This wasn’t her.
It wasn’t supposed to be her.
A medic finally broke through the crowd alongside several members of stadium security, and only then did my attention shift.
My realization was inclined and with this, my eyes lifted as my mind replayed the last few seconds.
The direction Daisy had been looking…
The direction she had been running from…
The direction she had been pointing while screaming…
My gaze followed that line instinctively… and I found them.
Two figures dressed in black moving through the upper section of the stadigm./
Running.
Leaving
Every muscle in my body locked then and for one dangerous second, everything else disappeared.
The noise
The crowd.
The blood.
All of it.
My fists clenched.
The urge to go after them arrived instantly, powerful enough to make me take a step forward before conscious thought caught up.
I knew exactly how quickly I could close the distance between us. I knew exactly what would happen once I did.
Kabely used to kill me
Nobody hurt someone Feare about, and walked away.
With this, I started after them, storming in that direction. But just then, I heard Daisy’s name.
Not from her.
From one of the medics who had read her name off her ID. And the sound snapped something back into place.
I stopped and my jaw tightened so hard it hurt, but I let it.
