He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 177

Chapter 177

(DeLuca’s POV)

“Somebody inside the university helped them

For several seconds, I said nothing.

The words settled heavily in my mind as I stared through the hospital corridor without truly seeing any of it. A nurse passed by pushing a trolley. Somewhere farther down the hall, a machine emitted a repetitive electronic sound.

Conversations drifted in low murmurs from nearby waiting areas, but none of it registered properly because my attention had narrowed entirely around the information Fritzo had just handed me.

“Explain.” I said, and because it didn’t make sense, “a student?”.

“Most likely.”

I frowned. “Most likely isn’t an answer.”

“Yes boss.”

His voice remained steady, which was one of the reasons I trusted his feedbacks.

“The footage just isn’t clear enough for a positive identification.”

I turned slightly, moving farther away from the others gathered near the ICU doors.

“What footage?”

“There was a camera covering one of the service routes behind the stadium. We managed to obtain a copy about twenty minutes ago.”

That immediately caught my attention.

The stadium had been crowded. Cameras covered most of the obvious locations, but the obvious locations were rarely useful when dealing with people who knew what they were doing. The service routes were different. People paid less attention to them.

“And?”

Fritzo continued.

“The footage shows the shooters shortly before the attack. They weren’t alone.”

A cold feeling settled into my chest.

“Explain.”

“There’s a third person.”

I remained silent.

The foun’t visible. The angle is terrible and the quality isn’t helping so we can’t identify who it is.”

My brows caved in further. Then how do you know it’s a student?

“The clothing.”

That answer came immediately.

“The individual is wearing university apparel. Not staff clothing. Student clothing.”

I considered that, and then, “And you’re certain?”

“As certain as I can be without seeing the face.”

I dragged a hand across my jaw.

“What else?”
