He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 185

Chapter 185

(Daisy’s POV)

“I mean it, Daisy.”

DeLuca said those words to me, leaving me even more dazed.

He held my gaze for a moment before continuing.

“And I’m talking about you.”

He could probably read the lingering disbelief in my expression and the certainty in his voice now left no room for misinterpretation.

No room for escape.

No room for me to convince myself that I’d somehow misunderstood what was happening.

Yet somehow I still managed to sit there staring at him as though my brain had conditionally disconnected from the rest of my body.

A small sigh escaped him now.

Not an annoyed sigh or a frustrated one.

It was more like the sound of a person realizing he was going to have to say even more things he wasn’t comfortable saying.

“I know you’re finding all this tough to take in but believe it or not,” he said, “this is already considerably more emotional honesty than I’ve displayed in the last several years.”

The comment should not have made me smile.

Unfortunately, it didn’t. He was right. This was a lot and even after several minutes, I was still battling with reality.

DeLuca continued now. “Daisy, somewhere along the way, you stopped being a responsibilly.”

The words instantly made the moment 10 times more serious.

“You stopped being a deal.”

His gaze never left mine.

“You stopped being temporary.””

My heartbeat accelerated again.

Dangerously.

“And that terrified me.”

I blinked. That wasn’t the statement I had expected.

Tanything, it-only confused me further.

Apparently notteing this, DeLuca leaned back slightly and dragged a hand across his jaw before continuing.

“I don’t do attachment well.”

The statement sounded so blunt that it almost made me laugh. Almost

But I couldn’t laugh. I was far from amused.

“I had people I trusted once.”

His voice remained calm, but something about it felt heavier now.

“That ended badly.” He said and silence escorted his voice, showing how much everyone was listening.

“So when I realized I cared about you, my first reaction wasn’t excitement.”

A humorless smile touched his face.

“It was panic.” He added and the honesty of the admission stunned me.
