Chapter 190
Then he added, “I’m taking you somewhere safe. You’ll continue treatment there.”
The nurse made a strangled sound that suggested she disagreed with every part of that plan, but DeLuca ignored her completely.
For a moment, the rest of the room seemed to disappear. There was only his voice, his expression, and those impossible blue eyes fixed steadily on mine.
“Trust me.”
For reasons I couldn’t fully explain, I did.
Not because it was logical.
Not because it was smart.
Because it was DeLuca.
And somehow that was enough.
A moment later, he slid one arm beneath my knees and the other behind my back before lifting me effortlessly from the bed. The sudden movement made me instinctively grab his shoulder while the nurses immediately resumed protesting.
“Sir, you can’t leave.”
“She’s suffered blood loss.”
“She’s still recovering.”
Their voices followed us all the way to the doorway, but DeLuca didn’t stop until we reached it.
Then he paused.
For a brief second I thought he had changed his mind.
Instead, he turned toward them.
“You should find somewhere safe.”
The women exchanged confused looks.
Then DeLuca added, “Before you’re killed like your security team.”
The silence that followed was immediate and absolute.
