The crowd rushed over to watch the spectacle. Some even started live–streaming the fight. One of them held up his phone and narrated the brawl like a ringside commentator.
By the time Rebecca arrived, the two men were already rolling on the ground in a chaotic tangle.
“Stop fighting! You’re making a spectacle!” she shouted, trying to separate them. “Do you want this all over the internet?”
Desmond gained the upper hand, pinning Vance down. “I don’t care!”
Vance took the chance to grip Desmond’s throat until his face turned purple.
“You don’t care either?” Rebecca locked her arm around Vance’s neck from behind and yanked backward with all her strength.
She tried to pull them apart but ended up choking him. Desmond broke free and drove a vicious kick into his ribs, ready to hit again.
Vance growled, “Rebecca, you’re pulling for him!”
His words came out in strangled gasps, but she kept her jaw clenched and her arm locked tight. “No more fighting!”
“You’re choking me!” he wheezed between violent coughs. “What the hell are you doing?”
Catherine rushed up and desperately threw herself between the two men. “Don’t hit him! It was my fault. Hit me instead. Let him go.”
The imprint of Desmond’s slap still burned bright on her cheek. Vance looked up at her, then turned to Rebecca with difficulty. “You always say I favor Cathy. Now you see why.”
Rebecca stared at him in disbelief. “Are you that stupid? Please keep your mind straight until the divorce is final. I don’t want to walk away with nothing but debt.”
How could he not see through such obvious manipulation?
