He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly
Chapter 291
She stepped inside.
I didn’t.
Not immediately. I stood there at the threshold, giving myself one last window to reconsider, because if
this was an elaborate setup – and it absolutely could be, given who I was dealing with – this would be the
single best version of it I’d seen yet.
Aria was good at performing. I knew that better than almost anyone alive. Standing there now, watching her wait for me with urgency written plainly across her face, I had no real way of confirming whether that
urgency was genuine or just very, very well rehearsed.
I groaned quietly and went in anyway.
The door sealed shut behind us, cutting off even the faint ambient noise of the grounds outside.
Aria led the way down a narrow hallway, and the contrast hit me immediately- outside, even from a
distance, the place had felt alive, humming faintly with movement and ritual and low voices.
In here, it was dead silent. Overhead lights buzzed faintly along the ceiling, spaced evenly, clinical in a way
that didn’t match the golden grandeur outside at all. No guards. Not one. Which told me, more clearly than
anything else so far, that this passage wasn’t supposed to exist for most people.
We reached a second door.
Bigger than the first, reinforced, set into a frame that looked like it belonged on a bank vault rather than
inside someone’s house. Aria didn’t reach for a keypad this time. She raised her palm instead, pressing it
flat against a small glass panel embedded beside the frame.
The panel lit up, tracing thin lines of light across her palm, mapping something far more detailed than a
simple fingerprint. I leaned in slightly, curious despite myself, and caught a flicker of text scrolling too fast
to read properly- something about composition, something about verification.
“What is that?” I whispered.
“The Kinlock,” she said quietly. “It doesn’t just read prints. It reads blood. Composition, structure, all of it.
Only people who share my father’s exact bloodline can pass through this particular door.”

Chapter 291
The light shifted to green, and the door unlocked with a heavy, final–sounding thud.
We stepped through.
– and immediately collided with something that felt less like a person and more like a wall that had
decided to grow legs.
Both of us tipped our heads back slowly, following the sheer height of him upward. I swallowed hard, my
throat suddenly very dry.
“Aria,” the man said, his voice low and rough, frowning down at her in a confused way.
“Go do your job,” Aria said quickly, already trying to pull me past him.
But then his hand shot out and closed around my other arm, stopping both of us dead.
“This passage is prohibited,” he said. “Even for you. Why are you coming through here?“.
Suspicion dripped off every of his words.
Aria stepped in close to him, her voice dropping into something sharp and precise.
“You don’t have the authority to question me! Not unless you want trouble.”
He laughed then. A deep, rolling sound that had absolutely no humor in it.
“You don’t have any stance left to threaten anyone with,” he said. “Everyone in this base knows it. The
master doesn’t acknowledge you as his. Not anymore.”
Aria’s fist moved before I fully registered it happening.
It connected with his jaw hard enough that the sound alone made me flinch, his head snapping sideways
from the force of it. He didn’t fall. His size alone made that impossible. But even I could tell that hit had
