He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly
Chapter 332
(sy’s POV)
A lot of crazy things had happened to me over the past few months. Enough that I’d started, somewhere along the way, subconsciously bracing for the next one before it evened, the way you flinch at a loud noise after the third or fourth time it happens.

So everyone adjusted in their own way.
Nathan looked like a man who’d walked into what he thought was a simple confrontation and instead discovered an entire war he had absolutely no training for. Mabel looked like she was actively mourning the loss of her social calendar, glancing at her dead phone every few minutes like it might spontaneously resurrect itself and deliver urgent gossip. Tessa had gone quiet in a different way the thrill that had carried her through the early chaos had apparently run its course, leaving something more tired and more real behind it.
Aria stayed silent.
I watched her more than anyone else in that room, if I was being honest with myself. Too many unaddressed things still sat between us, and silence from her felt less like peace and more like a held breath. I still didn’t trust her. I don’t think I was supposed to, yet.
Archer, meanwhile, I genuinely couldn’t read. Whatever he felt about any of this stayed locked somewhere behind an expression I didn’t have the tools to
translate.
Voices pulled my attention toward the door as Torres and a handful of the others filed back in, carrying bags that smelled, gloriously, like actual food. Apparently even a night like this couldn’t override basic biology. Hunger remained, stubbornly, a factor.

“No.” Mabel shook her head firmly. “This will do more harm than good to my system.”
During the time we were together, Nathan said from across the room, you ate far worse than this. Don’t act like your body can’t handle a sandwich.”
Mabel’s glare snapped toward him instantly.
“Maybe that’s exactly why I don’t stay around you anymore,” she said. “Maybe that’s why I changed course for something better.”
