He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

(Daisy’s POV)

I had escaped from Mabel and her minions.

A lecturer had come into the room. I had been lucky so I had used it swiftly. The rest of the day moved quickly after that, not because anything was easy, but because I didn’t give myself time to slow down.

I went from one class to another with my head down and my steps measured, avoiding eye contact like it was a survival skill I had

just unlocked.

If I saw a group ahead, I changed direction. If I heard laughter behind me, I didn’t turn. If anything even remotely reminded me of

Mabel or her circle, I left before it could become a situation.

It wasn’t living. It was navigating.

And I was doing a decent job of it and then my phone buzzed.

I glanced down.

DeLuca: Where are you?

I frowned but replied anyway.

Me: Lecture hall B for my next class.

This is crazy.

And then there was no response from him. I waited for a few seconds, then shook my head and slid my phone back into my bag.

Weird.

A few hours later, it buzzed again.

DeLuca: Where are you?

I stopped mid-step this time.

Me: Library.

Again… nothing.

I stared at the screen for a second longer before typing angrily. I decided to ask:

Me: Where are you?

He didn’t reply and that annoyed me more than it should have. By the third time it happened, I stopped expecting anything back.

DeLuca: Where are you?

Me: Hallway outside Econ.

I slipped my phone away slowly, the rolization settling into place. He wasn’t trying to have a conversation. He was checking,

confirming. Monitoring.

Not like I wanted a conversation. Definitely not.

I adjusted my bag and kept walking through the hallway, and that was when it hit me.

Work.

Coffee shop.

I stopped so abruptly someone behind me almost walked into me.

“I forgot!”

I actually forgot!

Yesterday had been chaos. Today had been survival. And somewhere in between, the very real fact that I had a job now had completely slipped my mind.

My first day. Missed.
