He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 83

Chapter 83

(Daisy’s POV)

The message stayed in my head longer than it should have.

Which is impressive, considering I usually forget things like where I kept my pen two seconds after putting it down.

But this?

Unknown number. No personality, “Stay away from him.”

I had stared at it for a full minute after waking up this morning, like maybe if I looked hard enough, it would grow a com explain itself.

It didn’t.

conscience and

I had flipped my phone over and gotten out of bed to move on with my day. But then there was the understanding that was left behind. Because whether I liked it or not, the message wasn’t wrong in one very inconvenient way.

People had seen DeLuca and I. Not everyone though but enough people. Enough for assumptions to grow legs and start jogging

around campus.

Enough for someone to decide I was worth warning. Or threatening.

Same difference, really.

I had brushed my teeth, tied my hair back, and told myself something very simple as I finished.

This is fine. Everything is fine.

Nothing is-

Okay, no.

It wasn’t really fine.

Because I was still going to school. What was I supposed to do if I was cornered there by this person?

By the time I got to campus, the atmosphere already felt… louder.

It was like something was happening, or about to happen and I missed the memo.

Which, honestly, wouldn’t be surprising.

I walked past a group of students talking over each other.

“…today, right?”

“Yeah, trials already started-

“I heard Nathan’s playing!”

I slowed slightly.

Right.

The Sports festival.

That thing the school does every now and then where suddenly everyone discovers they care deeply about athletics.

I noticed banners were already up around the field area with people moving in clusters- the energy building like a countdown no one officially announced.

I didn’t plan to stop.

I really didn’t.

But somehow, my feet adjusted direction on their own, and before I knew it, I was standing near the edge of the field with a few other people who also pretended they just happened to be passing by.
