(Daisy’s POV)
Aria didn’t even hesitate. “You really want to do that? Confront her?” She looked enthusiastic.
I hesitated for a moment, then “I think I mean to kindly ask for her consideration.” I said, admitting the truth to myself. Realistically, there was no way I could confront Mabel without bringing problems for myself and having the issue made even worse,
Hearing me, Aria’s expression switched. “She’s not worth that, she said, her tone sharp now. “And you’re not going to be the kind of person who goes around begging people like her for favors.”
“I understand,” I said quietly. “But I feel like I have to.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I don’t have any other choice.”
She shook her head, frustrated. “Daisy-”
“You don’t understand, I cut in, not harshly, just tired. “Mabel has all the power. If her party is on that day, then that’s it. Nobody is coming to the competition. Nobody.”
Aria held my gaze, her expression tightening.
“I really have to do something, I added, softer now. “And right now… this is the only thing I can do; beg her to move it to another day.
Aria exhaled slowly, like she didn’t like any part of this. “I understand,” she said after a moment. “But I don’t support it.”
That was fair. But the reality still remained.
I checked the time and shifted my bag higher on my shoulder. “I have a class now. I’ll go after.”
Aria looked like she wanted to argue again, but she didn’t. She just nodded once, her eyes still carrying that disapproval.
“Talk to you later,” I said.
“Alright, Daisy.”
I turned and walked away before she could change her mind.
Several hours later, I sat in the cafeteria, staring down at my food like it had just cussed me out. I wasn’t even eating properly, just moving fries around: waiting, and thinking.
Aria arrived like a storm. She slid into the seat across from me, breath slightly uneven from walking fast, eyes already locked on
