Alaric paused for half a second, his tone suddenly turning dead serious. "Felicity, is the baby still there or not? I need to confirm this with my own eyes. We have to meet."
"It's late in the middle of the night. Who wants to meet up with you?" Felicity replied, clearly disgusted. "I need my beauty sleep. I don't have time for you."
Alaric, being a middle-aged man, kept his tone steady and calm. "If you don't let me confirm that my baby is still safe, I will tell Pierce every single thing you made me do."
"You..." Felicity exploded. "Are you threatening me?!"
"I have no choice, Felicity. I almost became a murderer for you. I have to make sure my bargaining chip is still intact. Don't worry, if the baby is fine, I'll keep working for you."
Felicity was extremely impatient and hated the feeling of being manipulated and forced to put on a show. But right now, she still needed Alaric's cooperation to stabilize the situation. She couldn't afford to burn bridges, so she swallowed her rage and compromised.
"Fine," she gritted out, her voice freezing. "The usual spot. I'm only giving you ten minutes. Once we're done talking, we leave immediately. Don't waste my time."
"Okay," Alaric agreed instantly.
Felicity hurriedly hung up the phone, snatched her bag off the sofa, and rushed toward the door, desperate to verify the truth.
The moment she stepped past the living room threshold, a chilling, bone-deep male voice suddenly echoed from the shadows, instantly making her freeze and her scalp tingle.
"Where are you going this late?"
Franklin Foster stood in the shadows of the living room, exuding a suffocating low pressure, his heavy gaze landing squarely on her.
Felicity's heart went into overdrive. Panic surged within her, but she forcefully steadied her expression, forcing out a flustered smile and casually fabricating an excuse. "A friend of mine just went through a bad breakup. She called me crying her eyes out. I'm just going over to keep her company and comfort her for a bit. I'll be back soon."
She didn't dare meet her brother's eyes, terrified he would see right through her guilt and panic. Keeping her head down, she sprinted out the door, fleeing the scene.
Franklin stood rooted to the spot, watching her hasty, evasive retreat. The suspicion in his eyes grew thicker.
He knew his sister too well. Felicity was impulsive and couldn't hide her emotions. Whenever she lied, she looked panicked, gave flimsy excuses, and avoided eye contact.
